so a quick question – does the Blackmagic Decklink Extreme HD allow you to connect directly to the nxcam? the card looks like it must go in a workstation vs. a laptop – is that true or can the card actually go into the mac pro laptop?

Not sure if you already figured this out – but I have no problems saving to external drives on the CMU. If you are still having issues – please repost.

Additionally, Final Cut NOW handles AVCHD files – so if they are using FCP – make sure they have the latest updates to FCP and give them the real raw footage.

I also have had clients who wanted “raw footage” but in a quicktime format. Since you use Vegas, it does allow you to create a MOV file that you can pass on to your clients. I have used this and while not ideal – it appears to work.

    John,

I’m a recent convert to Vegas – have never used it before the trial version of Home Studio (v 10) (was with Pinnacle – but it too had difficulty with QT conversions).

Is there some place that tells me the difference between versions 9 and 10? The price points are certainly very different – so am wondering if v9 would be a better option for me.

    Your advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -Don

I agree with John. If you import the videos using the software that came with your Sony (probably Content Utility Manager) it should combine the videos and audio together so there is a seemless transition. In fact, if you shooting one long continuous shot, then most likely you will only import 1 file because the software will combine all those 2g files into 1 “seemless” file.

At least, that has been my experience with my Sony.

Well, John… I don’t think I like Quicktime!!! I tried the changes as we discussed, and my harddirve ran out of space. I went to look at the tmp file it created, and it was 445G!

I appreciate your help and your insight. I think I will give the speaker the actual raw AVCHD footage and let him figure it out.

In the meantime, I just posted another topic on training for Vegas 10.

    Thanks again!

    John,

Thank you very much! I made the custom template and am rendering now.

I will let you know how it works.

    Thanks again!
