I _believe_ I know the answer to this — at least I have _a_ solution, but maybe there are other solutions.
Let’s say your T0 is 0 seconds 0 frames, your T2 is 2 seconds 0 frames, T5 is 5 seconds 0 frames, etc. Let’s also assume you are using 30fps.
You would place one keyframe at T0 (0s), another at T2 – 1 frame (i.e. 1s:29f) with the same settings. Place a third keyframe at T2 (2s:0f) and a fourth at T5 – 1 frame (4s:29f) both with 110% scale. Now place a fifth keyframe at T5 with 150% scale.
Since the changes in scale occur over the span of just one frame, they will appear to be instantaneous.

Indeed, I’m on a 2010 Mac Pro quad-core with the Radeon 5770 and I find the performance of Motion 5 to be quite good.

Now that is and interesting revelation with a disturbing outcome.
My video looks entirely different (different shades of color and vastly different banding) when played in VLC 2.0 versus QuickTime X. The look in VLC is more pleasing; still banded but with less obvious gradations. The best way I can describe it is that it’s like QuickTime X is showing an 8-bit 256 color image and VLC is showing a 16-bit 64K color image — but neither is showing 24-bit color.
I may just have to warn people not to watch my videos in QuickTime.

Have you looked at the Motion Path behavior? In Motion 5 this is under Behaviors > Basic Motion > Motion Path.

If you search on YouTube for “motion replicator” (without the quote marks) you’ll find the ones I was thinking of; a couple there by Mark Spencer in particular come to mind — one even has an animated “wheel” such as you mentioned.

My first thought was to have the droplets be a replicator using a Sequence Replicator to draw them on one at a time in the circular formation. However I’m still new enough to Motion myself that I can’t enumerate the exact steps to make it happen, but it seems I’ve watched a video tutorial, probably on “the Tube” (not TV, heh), on doing a similar sequence replication.

Unless you’re using green screen to composite the man over a background plate, the easiest thing to do would probably be to switch between one shot of the man jumping and another shot of the same location without the man in it at all. If the camera is set in the same spot for both shots and lighting, etc. is the same, it will look like he disappeared.

Motion 5.0.2 here. Save Current Frame as a PNG file produces nothing but a checkered background (my current frame is a full edge-to-edge graphic with no transparency) however saving as JPEG works.

After trashing my preference files (just to check) saving current frame as PNG is working fine.

No, I never found a solution to the banding. ProRes 422 or 4444, Best Quality, Full Resolution, with or without frame blending and motion blur all give the same results. Only turning off lighting (which gives everything a flat light) makes any real difference.
