I don’t have any PSD files to try but it sounds like you might have the Fixed Resolution checkbox checked (on the group which contains the drop zone).

Or, if you’re willing to have just the space between 2 words be at the center (similar to a credit roll) you could place one text layer on the left half of the screen with right alignment and a 2nd text layer on the right half of the screen with left alignment.

It almost seems like a job for a green screen replacement, except in this case it would be a white screen. 🙂 Since there’s lots of other white in the image, you might need a garbage matte to only replace in the area of the window.

I have had this problem (or something like it). When you go into the project properties (Project > Inspector > Properties tab) and enter a new duration, you have to click Return on your keyboard to make it happen. Simply clicking out or tabbing out of the field doesn’t do it for me.

May 23, 2012 at 11:25 pm in reply to: Motion 5 Compatabilitie

Final Cut Studio, to my knowledge, is no longer sold (new). You might find copies on Ebay or similar sites, but for the price you could get the new Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5 (sounds like you already bought M5).

But FCPX says it requires an OpenCL compatible video card, which I believe means the Radeon 4870 and higher. Check prices at Apple’s store for the 4870, 5770 and 5870 and decide which is best for your budget. I believe (don’t quote me) that all 3 should work with your Mac Pro.

If you prefer the classic interface of Final Cut Pro 7, then I think Final Cut Studio 3 (FCP7 + Motion4, etc.) should run on your Radeon 2600 card, but not as well as FCPX and Motion 5 would run on a 5xxx card.

What happens if you add a camera (from the lower toolbar in Motion 5) and put the whole project into 3D mode instead of just the group?

If you’re working with a camera in your project, you should have your 3D View Tools at the top-right of your viewer. These include pan, orbit and dolly so you can move about your entire stage to view all your objects.

April 14, 2012 at 1:30 am in reply to: Rigging position values for different snapshots

Unless I’m missing something (quite possible) I only see how to set one position in the snapshot for the new outer group (the group containing the group which has the 2 on-screen elements). I don’t see how to rig the 4 positions (top-left, bottom-left, top-right, bottom-right) other than using a rig.

I guess to clarify, when I’m talking about a snapshot, I’m talking about the project-level snapshot, not a snapshot on the rig. I don’t know if I was clear about that.

This is my first time trying to post a file to these forums — I’m a little lost doing it, I hope this works. This is my .moef file.

Thanks Mark, that’s what I did. There are 2 objects which are in a group and I am setting the group’s x,y position within the rig. But the position I set when working in the 4×3 snapshot carries over when I switch back to the 16×9 snapshot.

I don’t have FCPX, only Motion 5, but just a thought — does your animation use a Build In marker?
