October 5, 2010 at 4:17 am in reply to: Aja kona 3 -FCP – PVW2800 dub with timecode loopingI need to deliver BetacamSP tape with material starting at TC 01:00:00:00 and loop the material with the same timecode 5 times. Someone told me to dub it to digibeta and use it to dub to pvw2800 but I don’t have that much budget to buy a digibeta. I don’t know if there’s such a card that has a timecode out and can output the current output in the timeline.

I hope you can enlighten me, The SDI has an embedded timecode, right? If yes, can I decode it and use it as an external timecode input on my pvw2800? Do I need to buy additional equipment? I hope there’s a solution, I’ll be doing this for the next 6 months.

Do you mean, manually breaking the timecode? Another thing, I’ve been looking through the net and saw a product from ESE SD-488. Will this help me?

Thanks for the information Tom, you got it right that I’m planning to use the TBC as an Input signal on my betacam deck. I’m thinking to put it between my FCP-decklink-(S&W) -betacam when I dub my videos. My main problem was that the S&W don’t have a component input and output(only S-vid/composite and betacam dub cable). That’s why I’m confused if I’m just going to settle with an composite connection. I also understand that the betacam decks has it own built-in TBC but im wondering why to manufacturers made this stuff? Is it really used for recording/dubbing to analog tapes? I think I’m using it or connecting it the wrong way to my system right now. Should I just bought a ProcAmp instead of a TBC? Do guys know any reference on proper/typical connection diagram for a TBC and why do we need it. Sorry for being so naive.
Regarding to the problem on “bluriness”. I try to compare my commercial on air with other TV commercials and I find it not that sharp as the other TVCs as if it was dubbed from tape to other tape and there’s some sort of gen loss or softness to the picture quality. It doesn;t look as crisp and as sharp as we see it during the online. Though I’m working 10-bit all the way.
If the PVW2800 was misaligned, can we just use the alignment tape? I bought my deck with it but never used it and don’t know how to use it. hmm. Think I need a lot of some expert advice from you guys.

What was the projected edited on first? – FCP
Where is the EDL from the Nucoda or your editor? – Offline Editor
DId you start this project as video or DPX? – VideoI think, I started to see what you mean by your questions. I guess we should start my project on FCP with DPX, am I right? My problem with that is that I will have a very slow workflow because I need to render everything whenever I edit my clips. Can GT make an offline QT files?
Will I still be able to use gluetools even if we didn’t started the project on FCP? I’m an online editor by the way and normally someone else offline edits the project.
By the way you are right that Nucoda exports it’s graded files in folders.

Thanks for the reply sir but I need some clarifications. How would I re-link the footage? Using Reconnect Media of FCP? The Nucoda outputs everything in folders. There is no problem importing the DPX, i just use File-import-gluetools dpx seq. but it just imports everything. my main problem is actually re-linking it from my EDL. Where should i go to do this? I just downloaded the trial version of GT CinDPXProFCS2_v3.0.2a. Is it the right version? Thanks a lot.
Cheers!

FCP 5.0.4 is my version. they ingest it using FCP 6. I guess the only solution for me was to update my system and spend some bucks for studio2. I hope it’s just a codec or something that i could get from FCP6.
