    Thank you noah,

I am a seaoned pd-150 user. TV, DOC, Commercial, blah blah blah
Yesterday my dvx 100b arrived. Saturday I leave for Africa for 1 month to film AIDS orphans inrefugee camps in Kenya and Uganda.

I have no freakin clue what I am doing. The cameras really seem different. And I am feeling a bit anxious.

I have read the Barry Green book and watched the dvd.

I would love to know what you think would be the optimal settings for this camera.
We will be aiming for festival and theatrical future for this film.

I was thinking I would shoot 24p Gamma indoor and 24p normal outdoor.

But why not just 24PA.. correct?

I will be editing on G5 MAC dual 22.5.. fcp 5

    thanks for any suggestions..

the sdx 900 looks big and not very africa friendly..

the first thing it says on many kenya and uganda sites is.. don’t bring a lot camera equipment it will get stolen or get you killed.. yikes.

I am going to places that … that.. well.. lets say, they are not tourist destinations..

    ANy more suggestions..

I have heard from many people that the sony is NOT the way to go. The main reason I like the sony is the low low light shooting. And it is kinda painful to buy the panasonic 100a when the 100b and the 200 are just around the corner.

It really is hit or miss. After cutting more than 35 shows that are 30 minutes or longer, I still never know what to expect from FCP.

I am using fcp now with 7 lacie 500gb external drives – 600 hours of footage – 30,ooo logged clips… all captured low res anamorphic….. it is a monster of a project..

and I am having fewer problems and crashes that normal.. knock on wood..

the real challenge will be using the media manager to relink everything in high res!!!!

I would get a powerbook over a mac mini

    it is actualy “ROXIO”…

He said he wants an MPEG –

Does that sound right? I have never thought of mpeg as high quality. This needs to be high quality ’cause it will be playing on a dozen 24 inch plasma monitors at the Mr. Olympia.

    MPEG ?

Is 40 minutes the total amount of footage you will be working with or is 40minutes the length of the finished project?

And if so, how much total footage will you be importing into your MINI.

Problems do become more eveident/prevelant as soon as projects cross the 30 minute line. Especially if you are cutting every 3-6 seconds..
