OK, sorry I didn’t have time to work on this for a few days.
I’m trying again.
So far, I exported in FCP and the file looks good.
I am now trying this:“Then in Compressor make an h264 preset @ 640×480, deinterlacing on, and AAC audio @ 160kbps. ”
I’m confused about the Compressor settings.
In the settings, my options for h.264 are:
h.264 for apple devices
h.264 for blue-ray
h.264 for dvd studio proI don’t see an option anywhere to type in 640 x 480…

Hi Guys, So I’m completely lost.
Here’s what I just tried…I resized the images to 640 x 480
I then went to:export to quicktime movie
setting: i am trying a custom setting
frame size – 640 x 480 (Custom in the dropdown menu)
Pixel Aspect Ratio – not sure what to put here
Anamorphic 16:9 – uncheckedI tried most of the options in the Pixel Aspect Ratio drop down menu, but none of these worked well.
Thanks for all of your help. Do you have any more suggestions? -
OK, So I’m a little stumped.
I thought it would be better to make the overall size of the movie larger so the quality will hold up full screen on the ipad. The setting options in the sequence preset editor are:
frame size: I am trying to make the video 1280 x 720 so used the custom option and typed this in
pixel aspect ratio: the only options are:
NTSC – CCIR 601 / DV – 720 x 480
PAL – CCIR 601 – 720 x 576
HD – 960 x 720
HD – 1280 x 1180
HD – 1440 x 1080Editing Timebase: 29.97
Compressor: h.264Since the pixel aspect ratio does not match my frame size, I’m not sure what to do.
Thanks again for all of your help and taking time to help me w/ this!!!

OK, so in FCP – export as:
640×480 29.97 h264
AAC @ 160kbps, stereothen bring it into Compressor and export it as Apple TV?
-
OK, I got ahead of myself. I don’t know how to use compressor.
Do I export the file in FCP and then bring it into compressor? -
frame size 720 x 480 aspect ratio NTSC DV (3:2)
compressor DV/DVCPRO – NTSCI’m going to try to export with compressor now..
-
I am using FCP 5 – would that work in this version?
That would be awesome if so. I’ve been trying to figure this out for days!!!
Thanks for all of you help. -
Sorry, but I am VERY new to FCP. I went to the Format window (from Edit). Not sure if this is where I’m supposed to check, but it says the Vid Rate is 29.97.
Is this what you’re looking for? -
Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for your reply.
When I export for h.264 at the correct frame rate, the video plays on the ipad.
The problem is that the text in my images look blurry and the images themselves look really faded and washed out. Is there a way to export to h.264 but keep the same image quality?
Does this make sense? Thanks!
