    Hi,
I am new to FCP and am having lots of trouble – hoping you can help me out.
I am making a video in FCP with still images and I am trying to export this movie for the ipad.
When I export using h.264, the text in the still images looks very blurry and the images are washed out.
I’ve seen lots of posts on this issue, but haven’t found an answer that works. The text was done in photoshop and placed over the image, and then imported in FCP.

I tried exporting the FCP file with the Animation codec and it looks good when I play it in quicktime.
But…then the file doesn’t work on the ipad.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in HD, iPad has to be 720p30 (or 720p24) h264 and the audio needs to be 160kbps.

What format/frame rate is your timeline?

    Hi Jeremy,
    Thanks for your reply.
When I export for h.264 at the correct frame rate, the video plays on the ipad.
The problem is that the text in my images look blurry and the images themselves look really faded and washed out. Is there a way to export to h.264 but keep the same image quality?
    Does this make sense? Thanks!

What format and frame rate is your timeline?

This will help answer the ultimate question.

I should add that audio should be AAC @ 160kbps, stereo.

Sorry, but I am VERY new to FCP. I went to the Format window (from Edit). Not sure if this is where I’m supposed to check, but it says the Vid Rate is 29.97.
Is this what you’re looking for?

We just use the stock iPhone HD presets in Compressor here and everything looks surprisingly good. We’ve made files from 720p/59.94 and 1080i / 29.97 timelines.

I am using FCP 5 – would that work in this version?
That would be awesome if so. I’ve been trying to figure this out for days!!!
Thanks for all of you help.

Actually, AppleTV would be the closer choice.

With your sequence selected, hit command-zero to bring up the sequence settings.

OK, I got ahead of myself. I don’t know how to use compressor.
Do I export the file in FCP and then bring it into compressor?
