If you look past the technical characteristics of the film look,

I would say learning some DP skills, lighting, and solid editing technique could take you far even with a decent 3 CCD DV Camera (eg. DVX100a) to achieve a good “film look”

Some help you can find at https://www.hollywoodcamerawork.us/ this is out of a directing perspective, but will teach you the techniques the pro’s use.

This is my opinion and I’m no where close to a pro, so correct me if I’m wrong.

Well they go hand in hand really

But in basic form:

Color Correction is just that. Fixing white balance, contrast and getting all your shots to look the same.

Color GRADING is applying a certain look to your footage. eg. make , or apply more warmth to footage, etc…

That’s it in basic form.

I looked up the spec now, and you are right.

Dang, I would like a movie look, but with good CC I could probably make 1080 interlaced work. My last stuff was with the dvx100a, so I’m sure this will look better even if it is interlaced.

Hi there,

What you can do next time when you want to add an effect to all the clips in the sequence.

Rather create Nested Sequences, that way you only apply the eg. B & W effect to the sequence once. Bringing about alot of advantages and time saving!

You only have to delete the effect once, only adjust it once to apply any changes to it, etc…

I googled it, and came across aviatorfx, and they show how the process works, and I get that, I’m just struggling with the implementation of the color channels.

I have no idea if this would work, but here it is anyway:

Create a small emitting radio wave (white on black) with a short life so that it fades out while not to big.

then follow the instructions of Dan Ebberts to create a trail of these:

And animate along the Z-Axiz?

Add a fast blur to create a nice smooth displacement map

Precompose that layer,

and add a displacement map effect to your image you want to displace using the comp you precomped as the map?

http://www.wondertouch.com they have a $99 version of Particle Illusion that will have smoke presets, and you can animate and then composite over your video.

That blue is way to dark, I’m sorry, but I don’t think there is going to be much you can do, I’ll have a look a little later today but I doubt it, I just want to see whats going on in the channels.

How many seconds is your “blue screen” sequence?
