    Hi there!
We are doing a school project right now, and I am the one that is editing the movie. It is just that we need smoke. Like burnout smoke. We are riding on small bikes, and the smoke shall cover the bikes from behind, so people thing that it is cars or something, then the view changes, and we see the bikes, but now the smoke is more gone, and in the background. Not necessarily behind something, just in its way to blur out. The camera is going to move, so I think that a tracking point would do to keep the smoke in place?

I’m not any good at this stuff, so a detailed tutorial would do! Thank you!

The movie will maby be laid out on my website, and I will thank you for sure, in the credits!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

Your pobably better of doing this:

http://www.wondertouch.com they have a $99 version of Particle Illusion that will have smoke presets, and you can animate and then composite over your video.

We don’t have that kind of money left. That will burst the budget…

I’ve had some luck in creating cigarette smoke using white particles and then applying a blur to them, you could try that.

Total training shows making smoke using the radio waves plug in…really cool. You could also play around with one of the particle plugins that ship with After Effects. Finally you could try fractal noise.

You can’t get much cheaper than this, and some of the clips can be downloaded for free! These guys put a lot of work into their stuff and don’t charge much. If I remember right there are some green screen smoke effects as well. Here’s where to find them:

CC Particle World can produce some good smoke. Use the Faded Sphere or Darken and Faded Sphere setting with gray and white as the colors and crank the birth and death sizes up. Lots of control too with camera and position settings. I use it a lot. Works pretty well.

rent a smoke machine for $20 it will look real rather than fake

    or

    play with particle playground

    or

play around with a video camera a sheet of solid colored paper and some cigar smoke (cancer not included, brush your teeth after)

    Thank you all!
We got in a few money, and I have heard that Particle Illusion is very good, so we have ordered a version now 😉

    Hope this project works out!
