Hey thanks guys – So I’m using Sony A7sii 4k files 100mbps in XAVC-S codec
I usually just re render the The section of blackness by itself to make it work, so it seems if it’s touching or part of another event it blacks out. So then when I use that working rendered file sometimes it will make the event before or after it create a new blackout…

Thank you, I understand the information loss if too high or low, clipping…
Actually now that I look, it was set to waveform, not the histogram…
So now it actually looks like I still had more room to go down to the “zero” I was thinking of… but now it says the waveform is clipping highlights, but the histogram is not past 255 in clipping…Should I be as close to zero unless I want shadow detail…I’m sure that’s all it is for that “contrast” preference…

Not saying you’re not correct… but I’ve taken before and after screengrabs and pixel peeped all the way in and can’t see a difference…in color, sharpness, and motion doesn’t macro block or ghost or breakup – That being said going back to the 22Mbps is plenty? Even from coming from the 100 Mbps – when originally filmed

Forgive me if I’m lacking the terminology of chroma and noise, but how is my tone curve and color adjustments affected within the editing latitude?

How so? I cant tell a difference – and as far as work “flow” I’d say it saves me a considerable amount of time with the edit – I know bit rate helps with things like fast movement – (less artifacts) but I’ve been told in this forum that 22Mbps is plenty enough for regular edits

  • Hi George thanks for your reply – I’d forgot to mention that I’m aware of the Sony transition tab with presets. I’m wanting something other than those. The Vegas transitions are all bland…? I’ve seen people advertising their transition packs of presets – that just look… crazy looking shakes, swoops, like they automatically masked and key framed up something crazy for me.

I’m reading around this thread and am learning that social media sites prefer 1:1 square…
    I film 4k –
    do I render 1280 X 1280
    or
    1080 X 1080
What do I go with that Facebook would prefer as square?
    Thanks

Also, Along with the crop issue, there’s no option to render the same 24p – it only has options for 30 and 60p

I’m in Catalyst browse I have the export settings the same everything other than wondering why I cant have a “no crop” option it only allows me to choose letterbox, cinemascope, or center crop.

I’ve converted them to an mp4 and it lowered the file size from 19gb to 2gb. I’m guessing it lowered the bitrate a ton because the video breaks up easily in the shadows and colors and such.
I’ve used the freeware program Factoryformat and just chose the default highest quality mp4 conversion. I wonder if there’s a better program to make sure I get the same exact 4k and bitrate as recorded
