Rendering videos in Vegas 16.0 with blackouts
Posted by Derek Charles on December 4, 2019 at 8:18 amI have been rendering videos in Vegas 16.0 with blackouts – where an event will contain audio but no video – then the next event will have video, then the next black, etc. – This seems to happen more when using the Vegas Lut Filter – or if I’m speeding up the events…Any ideas?

It would help a lot if we could get more details.
Like: What type of files you’re using, a list of the plugins used, would be nice to have screen grabs of your time line(s), of your render specs, etc…
The more info we have, the better chances you’ll have of getting the right answer(s).
Cheers !

December 4, 2019 at 8:04 pmHey thanks guys – So I’m using Sony A7sii 4k files 100mbps in XAVC-S codec
I usually just re render the The section of blackness by itself to make it work, so it seems if it’s touching or part of another event it blacks out. So then when I use that working rendered file sometimes it will make the event before or after it create a new blackout… -

From what I understand about the XAVC-S codec ( I’m more into the broadcasting end of things and this is not a broadcast worthy codec ) it’s basically a H264 that will give you up to 3840×2160 in 4:2:0 at 8 bit. The advantage of this codec is that you get a smaller size file. On the negative side you get a file that will degrade a bit more throughout your generations. Also, you need to have a bit more computing power to process the files and there is no metadata. Could be that when adding your FXs the strain on your computer is just to much. Now, you mentioned that when you render those parts separately you don’t get that ”blackout” effect. That may be the reason why. You may have to work on those parts as ”stand alone” entities. This is actually my preferred workflow since I can send a ”finish” segment for approval or special FXs or colourization work.
Maybe someone here has a workaround handy up their sleeve.
Cheers !
