The updates you’re getting aren’t as significant as the ones they are now able to offer Cloud users though. They’re basically maintenance updates and sometimes they add support for a significant new codec or things of that sort. With the Cloud they are able to offer significant new features that add new functionality to the program itself, like they did with Photoshop a while back. There’s something about the license agreement that’s used for disc-based software that prevents them from being able to do this.

The big drawback that I see with the Cloud versions though, is the fact that they have to phone home each month to verify that you’ve made your payment on time. What happens if your internet connection is down at the time when it’s scheduled to do this check? Or what if you’re on a laptop in a remote area that doesn’t have internet access?

Keep in mind, though, this discussion appears to have taken place before the preview of the new Premiere Pro went up. During the part about Adobe in the third video the guy on the end said that “If we could have this discussion in a couple weeks things would be a lot different.”, or something like that. After seeing the Preview for CS7 (or whatever it is they’re going to call it), and the excitement it’s generated, I think he was on to something…

THAT sounds really cool indeed, especially since it doesn’t duplicate the masters anymore (YESSS!!!).
Another question… Could this work between an editor and an AE guy? Could someone start doing AE stuff on one sequence of a project while another one is being edited?

Ok, so, let me get this straight… There’s a new app out called YOUTUBE capture that’s designed for enhancing videos before you upload them to YOUTUBE, which is owned by GOOGLE, and said app is available for the iPhone and iPad, but NOT ANDROID???

I want to re-iterate, YOUTUBE is owned by GOOGLE…

That’s actually my view of the whole FCP 7 to X transition:

Apple tore down the old Legacy version very quickly, and doing it wasn’t hard for them at all.

Now, building something equally good to take its place… THAT’s the part they haven’t quite figured out yet.

Walter Soyka Also agreed on the negatives. Pr needs better media management, a proper mezzanine codec, and a few more UI refinements.

I totally agree there, especially on media management. One of the gripes I noticed people have mentioned with PPro is it’s poor handling of sequence imports during collaborative editing. If you put the same footage on two systems, and two people edit different sections of it, and then bring a sequence from one system over to the other and add it to the other project that’s using the EXACT SAME MEDIA FILES, Premiere creates a new folder for the new sequence’s media, even though it’s already being used in the project.

I’ve participated in a couple feature-length PPro projects a while back where collaboration was involved, and remember this being a bit annoying. If I remember right, it even conforms the audio again for each new sequence that comes in.

But on a positive note, Premiere is being used more now for projects like this, and annoyances like this are getting talked about more, and we know Adobe is paying attention. Based on all that, I think CS6.5 is going to be a great release…

Nick Baer “How did you ever deal with the insanity of Encore, when DVDSP was/is so visually intuitive?”

I know Encore has its issues, but I could never switch to DVDSP after using it- not entirely anyway. Look at my avatar and you’ll know why…
