Buy a can of high temperature white paint and an ARRI 300 watt fresnel.
The process should be obvious.
Be sure to take out the lens and cover the reflector.DS

My personal favorites are Roscolux 68 or 80.
Spatter or lightly sponge your red brick wall with gray paint to help the color to “pop”.
If you use Roscolux 77 (which has more green than red in it) it will help neutralize the red of the brick.DS

If it makes you feel better “blast” all three thru the silk.
If there are reflections adjust the lights accordingly.
Stop worrying….it’s just another school play.DS

Shoot at dusk. Get your HMI’s high (25-0″) – a always prefer putting my stands in a Genie lift. A 2.5kw HMI stippled PAR with some diffusion would service you better. If you can get a HMI balloon light, do so.
Your best friends will be several 750 watt, 50 degree, Source 4 lekos on rolling stands. Use GAM spring branch patterns and blue gell to enhance the exterior look.DS

Unfortunately the space lights will require rigging, while the Helium balloon will ascend to whatever height you want “by itself”. In addition, you’ll be able to plug the very bright 1.2kw HMI helium balloon into existing house power edison receptacles, while the space lights will consume more power than the HMI source — and for less efficient output.

Lights hanging from chicken wire? I’m scared just reading that thought.
Get yourself a good gaffer and an electrician.
Rent two 6′-0″ Helium 1.2kw HMI balloon lights to fill the space with a soft even illumination.
Rent a few 1.2HMI Fresnels on rolling Hi-boys to use as movable key lights.
Shoot your show.DS

October 8, 2006 at 5:04 am in reply to: What’s the difference between these Arri lights? You’re paying extra for the brilliance (play on words intended) of the great physicist Jean Augustin Fresnel (1788-1827).
Countless lighthouses can’t be wrong.Just buy the Fresnel kit. You’ll be much happier.

I’d be hard pressed to suggest an individual dimmer with a price to match Dan’s suggestion, but companies who can provide very reliable, inexpensive, “professional” stage lighting dimmers include: DIVERSITRONICS, DOVE SYSTEMS, and LEPRECON.

Every reputable lighting company out there has very small 100w sources. Check out what’s available.
Whenever I do “tabletop” and model work I use Dedo Lights (which come with a variety of accessories), Mini-Kino Flos, or ARRI Pocket PAR fixtures with their fiber optic tube attachments. I’ve also used a fiber optic illuminator as a single source and run up to six tubes out as my lighting positions.DS

Watch any daytime soap opera (I’ve lit thousands of episodes). They all have hospital story lines. There’s a reason all their medical garb is always light green or blue (which is also true in many “real world” situations).
Do yourself a favor and…….
