On the more extreme side… uninstall Premiere Pro, run the Adobe Cleaner Tool (on the website), reinstall
Less extreme – trash prefs and cache again, restart computer, start Premiere Pro, start new project, import your old project, Do a save.

Good to hear Lee. I would encourage you still to invest in more RAM.
I also have fixed memory issues by making super large jpgs smaller. The reason for this is because each still takes up RAM to have instant access. When you have dozens or hundreds of stills the RAM gets eaten up.
If you’re not doing pan and scan, consider using a Macro in Photoshop to batch process all of your stills into 1920xwhatever to make your editing easier.

If sounds like you have a HUGE project with probably thousands of clip instances. One key thing you did not mention is how much RAM there is in your system. This is the single biggest factor when dealing with large projects. If you have 12 hours of raw footage (likely much more) in thousands of clips, if you say anything less than 32GB, that’s probably your problem.
The other thing is to organize your 12 hours into one hour chunks with all of the media moved to those locations. Twelve one hour projects (with appropriately smaller amounts of media) while maybe more difficult to manage, will be easier on your system than one 12 hour long edit.

Did you move the files to another location to make media offline?
Did you clean your media cache?
Have you tried a clean project and then import the one that is giving your problems?Hopefully, something of the above helps.

AVC-Intra is a very heavy codec in terms of CPU. I can play it back but at half res in real time on my 17 MBP via Premiere Pro.

I recently saw your post and wanted to respond. There is the ability for plugin developers to develop a transition specific version of their effect. In the past, their primary focus on Adobe support has been around After Effects where transitions don’t really apply. As a result, many of these plugin vendors have not done the extra work to make them compatible as a transition for Premiere Pro.
We are currently reaching out to our plugin partners and requesting that they start the work for creating Premiere Pro transitions where the effects make sense. I would STRONGLY encourage any people who are interested in seeing this happen to do the same.
