Such Macs can be bought very cheaply now &#8212; I bought a beautiful Mac Pro 5,1 for €311 &#8212; to run Sierra, thus Final Cut Pro 7.  According to    macworld.com/article/673697  Sierra runs on various 2013-2017 Macs, but none newer.  You do not have to consider whether FCP7 will run on Sierra on this or that M&hellip;</p>

Example: when Retroactive is used to install FCP 7 on High Sierra and above, Compressor 3.5 does not get installed.  But FCP 7 must connect with Compressor 3.5 in order to make Blu-rays.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m not sure Dixon needs to obtain another Mac.  If the firmware on his present Mac isn&#8217;t too high he can boot it from an external hard drive&hellip;</p>

I used Retroactive version 2.1(91) and a Final Cut Studio install.dmg.  Installation worked, but strangely.  Retroactive insisted on downloading its own ProApplicationsUpdate2010-02, <i>from somewhere</i>,&hellip;</p>

If your FCP7 project file consists of many sequences I&#8217;d suggest exporting a separate .xml for each. With Mavericks, we watch 1080 144p with QuickTime via the HDMI port.   (Our purpose is not frame rate <i>per se</i>, but emulation of film projector&hellip;</p>

The metadata says what shape the unsquare pixels have, but metadata can easily go wrong as the file passes through programs that &#8220;interpret&#8221; it idiosyncratically. And metadata is easily corrected. I alter pixel aspect ratio in .mov&hellip;</span></p>

If you can make a clip which is perfectly black where you speak of masking, and perfectly white everywhere else, then that clip can be your &#8220;mask&#8221;.  In an FCP7 sequence, the &#8220;mask&#8221; will be one track and your movie scan will be the other track.  Apply color&hellip;</p>

<p>With any monitor other than a CRT, the 60i DVD gets deinterlaced.  Often this is &#8220;double deinterlacing&#8221; so one sees pseudo 60p video, which looks damned good.  With luck, the 30p DVD looks like 30p.</p>
<p>If you shoot 60i and then deinterlace it to make pseudo 30p there will invariably be&hellip;</p>

No camera shoots at those rates.  They are the result of some downstream time transformation.  You should have conformed the weird clips all to 29.97 before commencing the edit.  Apple&#8217;s Cinema Tools can do this, but I prefer QT Edit from Jon<br />
Chappell (Digital Rebellion).</p>

<p>Do try letting LiveType do the render, and then importing the .mov file to FCP7.  In that way LiveType is compatible with many editing applications,&hellip;</p>

<p>If the rendering is done in LiveType it produces a .mov file in Apple Animation codec which has to import smoothly into the FCP7 sequence, whatever its codec.</p>
<p>But also an unrendered .ipr file coming out of LiveType is importable into the FCP7 sequence&hellip;</p>

<p>In general, export from FCP to Compressor is more buggy than taking 2 steps: export from FCP to .mov file; stick .mov file into Compressor.  For the first step full render is advised because it will signal if there&#8217;s a particular trouble spot.</p>
