Help creating an XML from an old FCP 7 project
Posted by Dave Blair on May 13, 2024 at 6:47 pmHi – I have an old FCP 7 project that I’d like to import into Resolve, and no longer have FCP 7 (I don’t even have a Mac anymore). Is there anyone who has FCP 7 who could open this project and export an XML for me to use?
Thanks!
Dave

June 25, 2024 at 1:21 pmI’ve been doing occasional .fcp to XML exports for folks over in the FCPX forum.
If you’ve got a FCP 7 project file that needs exporting to XML (or even XML to .fcpxml to Library), I can help.
Keep in mind I do this as a courtesy and when I’m between projects, so turnaround times can vary.

I have the FCP7 and the time to do it, but perhaps not the knowledge. If your FCP7 project file consists of many sequences I’d suggest exporting a separate .xml for each. In my tiny experience of FCP7–>Resolve (version 14) I’ve only imported .xml’s for single FCP7 sequences into the latter.

June 22, 2025 at 9:52 pmMatotea, try this: https://www.mediafire.com/file/zromv2f8vvpmz1l/VINI+20+ANS.xml/file
mediafire.com
MediaFire is a simple to use free service that lets you put all your photos, documents, music, and video in a single place so you can access them anywhere and share them everywhere.

July 13, 2025 at 10:07 pmHi Dennis, I saw you recently helped Matotea converting final cut files into newer versions/xml.
I have a similar issue. I have an old .fcp file and cannot open it anymore with newer versions of Final Cut Pro. It seems the project needs to be in .xml.
Is there any chance you can help me convert it?Thank you very much for your help! It’s much appreciated!
I’m attaching already the file in case you happen to have time. Not sure how to pay you back but can always offer a beer if you ever pass by the Netherlands

July 31, 2025 at 7:12 pmHi Dave! If this works I will be forever grateful – it’s driving me nuts trying to get this 2010 .FCP file into my current workflow – https://www.mediafire.com/file/wxcy4aftqdjd4rf/CS.fcp/file – if you somehow can convert this into an XML my life will improve ten fold (at least) – I’ve tried to get FCP7 onto my Sequoia Mac but it’s just not happening and it’s driving me nuts.
