  • Resurrecting old FCP7 Projects.

I used Final Cut 7 till I retired in 2015. Still have the FCP7 install disks and several hard drives with various projects finished in FCP7. But my current iMac doesn’t support FCP7. Anybody havsolution to resurrect these projects?

I’d Like to at least be able to export the projects to DVD/Bluray

I’d be willing to set up a dedicated older iMac with the FCP7. If so, what is the latest OS that will work?

    Hi,

The last macOS version in which FCP 7 worked was Sierra, 10.12.

It is better to get an old Mac and work on it than using some software/virtual machine to run old macOs.

I agree with Devrim. Example: when Retroactive is used to install FCP 7 on High Sierra and above, Compressor 3.5 does not get installed. But FCP 7 must connect with Compressor 3.5 in order to make Blu-rays.

I’m not sure Dixon needs to obtain another Mac. If the firmware on his present Mac isn’t too high he can boot it from an external hard drive on which there is a sub-High Sierra volume with FCP 7 installed on that.

    Hi Dixon.
Another option is to transform your projects vía XML from FCP to FCPX with SendtoX App.
But the problem is that if you don’t have the XML version of your projects, you’ll need to run anywhere a FCP7, even without footage, plugins, etc. And old slow mac running FCP7 is enough.

    Hi again!
    I just remembered another workaround.
You can run directly FCP7 with Retroactive:

Unfortunately is discontinued, but you can run it on Macs with MacOs Sonoma or earlier.

For FCP 7 users, macOS Sierra (10.12) is the compatibility limit. An older Mac running Sierra is generally recommended for a smoother workflow compared to virtualization or emulation.
