The FigRig works great with my DVX100A when I want slightly more difficult handheld shots. It’s especially good for overhead shots; just tilt the monitor down, and it’s good for shots out to the side. I’ve held the FigRig over the side of boats and out moving vehicles to get good low angle shots. If you do a lot of handheld camera work, I’d recommend it.

When you white balance, use a small piece of 1/8 to 1/4 CTO (correct to orange) gel; this will add warmth to the shot, especially since you’re shooting through a window.

After you do your white balance, set the iris to auto; it will adjust as the sun sets.

Also, as another option to roll an hour of tape and speed it up in post, you can set the camera to intermittent recording, a simplified version of time lapse. Under the “Interval Rec” setting of the Recording Setup screen in the menu settings, you can set up to record a set length (15, 30, 45, or 60 frames: “Rec Time”) at a given interval (every 30 seconds, every 60 seconds, every five minutes, or every 10 minutes: “Interval Time”)

I use the Miller Solo system ($1300 at B & H, but currently out of stock) and while pricey, it folds up quite small. The legs are telescoping, similar to a still camera tripod, and I was able to stow it in a duffel bag and check it on a flight to Florida. It’s heavy enough to provide stable pans and tilts, but light enough to travel well.
