Ignoring LaRonde’s usual useless rants, I have to say thanks for the decent tip, Roei. The offline/re-link option doesn’t work, but pointing to a master AE pre-comp does.

So, even though it is disappointing that Premiere doesn’t have an option to directly re-link linked comps (at least not one that I can make work in CC 2017), my workflow will probably be something like this from now on:

    • Create comp in AE (A)
    • In Premiere, choose Adobe Dynamic Link > New After Effects Composition (B)
    • In AE, precompose A into B
    • Edit in Premiere with newly imported B comp

This way, all I have to do is keep the B comp in AE updated with the latest version of the A comp. So far, all edits are updating perfectly.

So the primary benefit of this “feature” is to demo another feature? You can see how that might confound/confuse folks who actually want to use a fully integrated Kuler panel in AE, right?

Please don’t think I’m complaining. I’m just looking for clarification. I understand what’s going on now and I continue to think that this improves access to themes.

And to completely answer my question, Todd, there isn’t a way to link my theme to items in my project and yes, it is just a glorified screengrab. Totally cool that it has the functionality it does. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something fancier. Thanks.

Walter, would you mind weighing in on this issue again?

I’m attempting to export from AE into Premiere. Rendering some losslessly encoded graphics with an alpha channel. The only way I can get them to composite correctly in Premiere is if I UN check “Composite in linear color”. I’m aware of how to linearize my working space in AE, but is there a way to take non-linearized AE graphics into Premiere’s default linear working space and have them correctly composite in a non-linear fashion?

  • Ok. That makes sense, Walter. Thanks for helping me figure it out so that it all goes more smoothly next time.

I suppose I should have worded it better (and used proper grammar) in my original post. Thanks anyway for trying. Any other ideas?

I have a feeling that it doesn’t work with layer styles?

Yes, I tried that at first. No dice. I apply it, switch the mode within to Add (or any other mode), and nothing changes. It’s like I’m not applying that effect at all.

But it doesn’t seem like the correct effect anyway, yes? I’m not trying to combine the effect with the layer, I’m trying to duplicate the layer within itself. Almost like precomposing two copies of the same layer within one layer, but without actually precomposing (and not needing a second layer to act as a reference).

    I know I’m missing something here…

No, I understand that. I’m trying to avoid needing a second text layer entirely.

    Edit: And thanks anyway. 🙂
