Thanks.
Our resident Machead is also looking into some other solutions and our Apple Government sales guy is also going to suggest some.

We are using Edge from SchedulAll, which is a “Lite” version. It won’t work on Mac unless you put Windows on Mac (and what fun is that?). We too are currently looking for scheduling software or project management software for Mac and are finding project management software may be more adaptable.

Hey Stef
If you look at the image closely you’ll see it was created in layers. Below the picture frame and the girl is the white layer. It may be the bottom layer. The glow effect is made by controlling transparency of sections of the layers above allow the white to show through soft edges created by masks on the layers above. Also note the airbrushing on the girl which is also white and adds to the effect.

Cool. It’s working properly. Motion Graphics – what a concept!

[Perrone Ford] “1. I’d like to allow remote CART access to do the captioning, and preferably over the internet versus dial-in. This isn’t a show stopper, just a preference.”
This is more a function of the captioning service you will contract with. If they can do internet, most stations can recieve it and encode it.
[Perrone Ford] “2. I’d like to be able to send either HD or SD video inbound to the encoder. At this point, I need to caption our legacy SD video and caption our new HD generated productions as well.”
It is my understanding that the encoders are different. We haven’t been CC’ing HD tapes because there was no encoder made. It now has been but I’m not sure if it accepts SD video.
[Perrone Ford] “3. The biggie. Most of the encoders I’ve seen give me a choice of either an HDI or SDI out connection. I do not have either on my recording devices. Is there a unit available that offers both an HD/SD SDI out AND something component/composite/1394 out? I’d like to hook this to an NTSC SD recorder for the moment until we can upgrade to something that can properly handle HD.”
AJA and Black Magic both make transcoder video cards that work in Macs and PCs. If you research these you’ll find a device that will work for you. You might make your HD VCR selection based on whether or not it will play legacy tapes. I know there are certain Sony models of HD CamSR that will play legacy formats. Check their website for more information.

Thanks all
Good food for thought. Nice to see most work in FCP and Motion.
I’m sure it will be a joy and delight to use them and the transition to FCS2 will be perfect in every way!Del

Thanks again Chris
I had Boris FX on edit* (still do but it’s going away) and they were good looking, although it took some time to figure out how to keyframe. I’ll research RED and Continuum. The Colorista would be another I’d be interested in. I do have the complete Sapphire sparks set and had asked the Apple sales guy when he was here about plug-ins, those in particular and he thought everything I needed was already aboard. Since I’m familiar with them I might go ahead and get them to start with. I appreciate the info and looking forward to the challenges the changeover will bring :-/

Thanks very much.
We planned to add Shake to the arsenal. I was just wondering if there are other plug-ins that are “must haves” for working inside FCP itself.BTW – was there a rumor afoot about “Pandemonium” being a replacement for Shake?

I’m with grinner
After four years of college crammed into six years I came out with a degree in Political Science. After substitute teaching I realized my desires were not in the classroom. I began by volunteering and learned to operate camera (and did well at it).I worked five weeks for my first paycheck and got $125 a week. That was probably a 60 hour week. I ran camera, built sets, lit the sets and whatever else they’d let me do. After gaining proficiency running a studio camera and listening to what the director does, I eased into directing by doing telethons. I ended in a directors pool doing a live two hour daily talk show – unscripted. Then I moved to videotape and learned the machines. Then I began to edit machine to machine for a couple years until we got a computer assisted editing system. I got into the editors chair and wouldn’t let anyone else do it and ended up as the editor. A couple years later I was made technical operations manager over the tape ops and editors but eventually went back to the linear edit suite and let other people administer.
So take what you can get and excel at it. Best of luck.
