While we are currently using a 42″ plasma on set for a couple of our programs we had the best luck when we used a green screen over the plasma screen (and earlier used a Juice Drop image for the “plasma screen”) and actually chroma-keyed the images, which then had the correct colorimetry and sharpness. It is very possible that is what the networks are doing. Call up one of their TDs and ask.
On our current plasma we do cut the light sharply with flags and use the HDVeous color corrector to get the images correct. Our studio cameras are LDK-6000s so they see everything.

I’m glad my Sony 9000 is gone. It was a great 11 year ride (after Epic editing for 8 years and a passing acquaintance with ACE). I knew about non-linear editing toward the end of the Sony days and ached for the abilities a NLE gave you. Pre-read was OK but the ability to move a clip anywhere, duplicate it, color correct it, warp it, add text, stabilize it and key it all within one system is so much better.
Tim and the others are correct, though, when they say editing is between the ears, not under the fingers. Access to linear editors is slipping away so the newbies can only learn on the available toolset.
I encourage those learning to identify and realize the mental processes that editing involves.
Pay attention. Watch hours of old movies (old being earlier than 2000) and see why Clint Eastwood uses Joel Cox, why Alfred Hitchcock could be so scary, and also watch commercials and see how editing moves both of those story types into your head and heart. If it isn’t so much fun you wonder why they pay you for it, you might want to find the thing that is.Del

Matte is on it – your reference to the vtr could b non-sync. It could also be the tape was recorded 2 field and you need to manually set playback to 2 field on the TBC.

Will Steve be able to check email and/or what’s the mailing address of the hospital? Do you think a box of See’s Candy would cheer him up?Del

Hi
I have an Epson 1280 and can’t recall being able to select paper in PS CS2 or earlier. I always go to printer preferences for the Epson after opening PS’s print preview and select paper and full page print there on the printer and then back out to PS and print.Del

Automation>pdf presentation will make that happen if you put the layers either on the desktop or in a folder and have the automated process select them. It puts each file (layer) on a page and groups the pages in one pdf.

This opportunity seems like a way to take a breather, recharge, and go at it again. You might love the purchasers of you business and want to stay connected; you might love the cable production; or you might hate them both and decide to crank it up again. Having done it once, you know the investment in personal angst and finances. Are you still young enough and strong enough to do it again? Do you want to?

That would be a question for an attorney specializing in copyright law. To show it without them being able to actually use it would only require your logo bug over the entire spot. Many software companies allow you to create with their software but it only outputs with a “watermark” over the finished scene until you pay for the full version. That’s the kind of thing you could do without actually copyrighting the spot but that wouldn’t stop them from copying the idea if they are of low ethical character.
