    I can’t now.

I did another clean install last night. This time with no Windows update, just the XP Pro SP2. I loaded the chipset utilities that came with the motherboard.

BTW, 1394 bus controller is not detected as usual.

I am calling Intel tech support Oct 5 to find out if this is a 1394 bus controller issue.

My BIOS is up to date too. Maybe, I need to downgrade (:o

I have the latest one #0039.

I am calling Intel Oct 5 for technical support. I will find out if this is a 1394 bus controller issue. Who knows, I might have to downgrade the motherboard BIOS to “catch” up with XP Pro (o:

I thought of that too, but the 1394 is Enabled in my BIOS.

I did that too. I disconnected the two cables connected to the built in 1394 connectors in the motherboard hoping it will detect a new hardware. No dice.

In my original install, the following were present:
    1394 connections in Network Connections
1394 bus controller in the Device Manager
    In the registry local_machine>system>currentControlSet>Enum>1394

NONE of these is present now.

I check that too. My 1394 is ENABLED in my BIOS.

    Thanks Aanarav.

This is how my problem started. I downloaded that particular KB. After the reboot, all instances of my 1394 DISAPPEARED! Go figure.

    Thanks Derrick.

This is exactly my problem. There is no entries for 1394 connections in Control Panel, Device Manager (including hidden devices) and there is no 1394 entry in the registry too.
They where all there before my reinstall.

    Thanks Ken.

I did install all drivers that came with the motherboard. Intel calls it Chipset Utility. The utility install all the features available so XP is able to use it.

Like I said at the beginning, the original install detected the built in 1394 bus controller in the motherboard. When I reinstalled XP Pro, the 1394 is NOT detected by the Device Manager. No registry entry either.

Would the built in 1394 bus controller in the motherboard defective?

    Thanks Derrick.

My motherboard manual says it is a 1394a.

Since the 1394 bus controller is built in the motherboard, I have no way to test it. It is not like testing a 1394 card; installing it to another similar system to check if it will work.

The motherboard is only two months old. I assembled the box myself.

When I reinstalled XP, I did not load any third party drivers i.e. video, NIC, and sound card. I used all the default drivers that came XP Pro.

    Could be my Intel motherboard?

    Thanks Mike.

My system is dedicated just for video editing. I have no other peripherals connected. There is nothing showing in Scanners and Cameras. When I expand my devices, including the hidden ones, 1394 bus host controller does not show up at all. I even check my registry. There is no 1394 entry in the local machine>system>currentcontrolset>enum nor PCI. BTW, USB detected with no problem.

I did not mention this in my original post, I reinstall with my old XP Pro SP1 to see if it detects the 1394 controller. No luck either.

Could be my Intel D915PBL motherboard?
