Thanks for responding, Chris. I have been sending them drives as of the last 6 months, but because they hadn’t returned them and they needed a new msaster asap, I didn’t have time to buy a new thumb drive and still make overnight delivery.

I finally got my drives back yesterday, thankfully. As of yesterday, the error was also reported on a thumb drive — was hoping it was just related to the DVD media, but apprently not.

Just wanted to update this in case anyone else is looking for info on this error and it’s severity:

I contacted Eclipse Technologies about the error and their technician had this to say:

It is true that this error is common in DVD-Video. In my opinion, this can safely be ignored provided that it is the only error.

I still don’t have any info on how the error is occurring, but the above answer from Eclipse support was helpful.

I want to note that I just got another master back with this error, this time with a master delievered as a DDP2.10 folder on a hard drive, so I guess it’s not specific to DL DVDs.

  • Hi John,

This is thread is a bit old, but I had some further questions about the DVDPrep plugin. I have used it in the past for single layer, but only on a couple of occasions. Now I am planning on using it for a dual layer disc.

From what I understand, VASST uses the info in the MPEG2 MainConcept templates to perform the render. So, if I select 2-pass and progressive fields in the DVD Architect templates, VASST will read those and render accordingly.

But how does VASST know whether you are burning to dual or single layer discs?

Also, how does this work with other media that is intended for the same disc? Meaning, if I render out a movie using VASST DVDPrep but then have to add trailers for other movies, menus, galleries and so forth, to the same DVD along with the movie, will DVD architect fit everything to disc?

    Thanks in advance!
    Deirdre

    Joao,

I converted about 8 clips totaling about 30 minutes of footage and the conversion only took about 3-4 minutes.

Yeah, it’s too bad it only does 4 at a time, but it’s a fairly speedy process.

Well, it totally works (in my situation, at least). *sigh*

Good to know, though – thanks for the link, Mike!

I’ve done some searches for the original discussion and can’t seem to find it. Do you happen to know off hand the link or thread name? I’d be interested in trying it. I looked long and hard for a solution and the only one I found was the Calibrated codec recommendation.

I am going to try out the software from the Convergent site. Although, maybe I shouldn’t, because if it works I’ll be sad that I spent the money!

Interesting. One of my clients has been (apparently) shooting .mp4 with the EX1 unless the bvap folders he is sending me are actually converted from another format. I didn’t need to use the clip browser for the mp4’s so maybe they were converted after all.

March 2, 2011 at 8:39 pm in reply to: XDCAM .mov footage – a field issue?

Did some more testing. If I run the XDCAM clips through Adobe Media Encoder (CS4) and output to 720×480 NTSC/lower fields, then render those lower field clips out in Vegas as progressive, the result is much, much better. Of course, I would prefer not to go through the additional generation loss or time spent encoding.

I’m not sure what is happening, or why the above method done within Vegas (rendering the XDCAM mov files out as 720×480 lower field) doesn’t yield the same results, but there it is anyway.
