Also, under Sequence>Render, check to make sure there’s a checkmark next to the red needs render option in the dropdown.
I usually have minimal render option checked in Render and all render options checked in Render All, although I’ve been known to change that up depending on the current project and needed workflow.

Add your flicker filter to one clip, adjust it accordingly.
Select that clip. CMD+C to copy.
Select all the other clips by your favorite method. Right-click or CTRL+click and chose “Paste Attributes”. Select “Filters”.
Of course, that will copy all filters on the first clip. If you have other filters you don’t want to copy, the easiest thing to do is to make a dummy clip and add just the filter you want applied to it, alter it accordingly, and then copy and paste attributes.
There’s other ways, as well, such as saving it to your favorites or dragging it to your browser.
I like this one because I’m a right-clicker and it seems much faster to me.

Or, another tip from Telly’s book, put a short slug on V3 at the head and tail and fade in and out of that.
This way, the opacity on V1 & V2 doesn’t change, so you don’t see through the text on V2.

…because MS isn’t necessarily known for plugging up known holes in it’s products….
But I do run Office because my clients run Office, and I’ve had no problems on my PowerBook. I don’t have it installed on my tower, though, partially because I don’t trust it and mainly because I didn’t want to pay for a second license.

…and “I went THROUGH the Peachpit Press..”
Sorry, I need to proof-read better!

er, I hate typos!
That should be “We HEAR more complaints…”!

Well, I commend you on your attitude!!
Granted, we here more complaints from frustrated Avid editors making the switch. It’s rare someone would post just to say, “Hey, this is SO MUCH better!”, or whatever. It’s human nature! If one isn’t trying to solve an issue, one probably isn’t frustrated and posting!
I, too, am a trained Avid editor, certified in ’93. I “picked up” FCP in ’99 and cursed the darkness until I woke up one morning and realized I was wasting my time and my client’s time trying to figure out my Avid workarounds to FCP. Granted, that was back when only about 20-30% of my client base was FCP. The rest was Avid.
I took the class, got certified for my own peace of mind, and now I’m so very happy I have TWO awesome tools to work with. And, my business is now about 50/50 FCP/Avid, gently leaning toward FCP.
The sooner you can learn FCP as almost a different language from Avid, the happier and more productive you will be!!
The FCP for Avid Editors book gets high marks, although I’ve not used it. I went thought the Peachpit Press Pro Series for FCP book. It is so very helpful in understanding FCPs architecture. It’s just built differently than Avid. Once you “get” the architecture, so many things will make so much more sense!

Dagnabit! An accidental double post via “Post Direct”!
That’s a bug that I wouldn’t mind seeing addressed!

This link has a downloadable Excel doc and some fairly good instructions.

For those who’d rather not use MS products, there is a version of FCPLog for AppleWorks.
Actually, there’s a lot of interesting tools here:
