    Could be the software.

I use After Effects with Primatte. It’ll key stray hair, translucent material and deals nicely with motion blur. Here’s an example:

Cindy, our host, is shot against green screen:

    Shutter is 1/60. 1080p30.

Use Compressor to convert your footage to a common format. Compressor can use all processors in your Mac, whereas if you export from FCP it’ll take a lot longer.

Compressor also provides much more options in format conversions.

I shot someone who wore a shirt that was green, but a different green from the greenscreen.

Primatte was still able to pull a key.

In your case you might want to pull the yellow-green character separately if it fouls up the other characters.

    The rumors are false.

I’ve done lots of projects and the results are just fine.

An ace is a pilot who has shot down at least five enemy planes… 🙂

5 GB of RAM seems rather small, especially if you can take advantage of a full 64-bit workflow.

I have a small one-man production business here doing a one-hour TV show on a regular basis, as well as other work for a few state and federal agencies. I have more than three times as much RAM.

And my system is stable, regardless of nested sequences.

Another thing: Never mix frame rates. It’s not hard to convert the footage to a common format, but unlike Avid, FCP will not do it automatically. As everyone else has said, it’s essential to understand the proper workflow and work accordingly.

You can rotoscope the car with an animated mask.

If you just happen to have CS5 of After Effects, there’s an incredible Rotobrush feature:

Craig… You might want to get in contact with the vendor of your plugins to see if they can solve your dilemma. With so many plugin vendors Adobe probably can’t give you the precise details considering the wide assortment of licensing policies.

The FS-100 is based on a hard drive and hard drives don’t tolerate sudden movements or vibrations.

The outboard recorder means having yet another battery to monitor and another spare to have on-hand.

The Firewire connection is a potential failure point, too.
