Simply switch to List view, sort by clip name, and then return to Thumbnail view; it should maintain the same sort order.
Otherwise, if you are talking about the bin list, you can right click on Master, down the bottom is Sort by… – and you’re done.,

try adding the fade out/in first before overlapping … this seems to work for me.

I’m not sure why the audio fade transitions are not working, to overcome this, you can put the audio tracks on 2 different tracks and use the fade sliders (fade out the top track and fade in the bottom). Or, if you need the audio on the one track, go to the Timeline dropdown menu and turn on Layered Audio Editing. Add a fade-out on the first audio track and a fade-in on the second audio track and overlap them – this will give you a cross-fade.

It sounds like the file may be corrupt – can VLC play the video? Do you have Adobe Media Encoder or know how to use FFMPEG or Handbrake to convert videos?

You only need columns A-I for the CSV file for the online tool I mentioned, just make sure you copy/paste values to remove the Excel formulas.

Creating EDLs from scratch can be tedious, I usually use Excel to create the file, especially if your clip is long and then I export it as csv and use this tool (https://en.editingtools.io/edl/) to do the conversion. It can get a bit fiddly but worth it if you have long clips.
