I just found a solution that worked for me straight away..
When installing your amd drivers for 6950 make sure that AMD SDK option is ticked, this will enable the open CL support needed for the gpu acceleration to run.
No need to reinstal drivers, just run the installer package and choose this component to install.
Its been three weeks so you have probably found the solution, but if not.. try this -
Same card and same problem here.. its doing my head in
