Chris. The XDCAM EX files are in a .mp4 file wrapper so they must be converted to .mxf for the Avid to import. With 3.0 you can import these 35 mbits or 25 mbits XDCAM EX clips and edit without having to convert them to DNxHD 115 which takes up more space. When you add effects they will have to be at an Avid resolution when rendering. Also, you will want to render to one Avid resolution when you output the program.

Richard. The 3.0 version of Media Composer will let you play Progressive and Interlaced clips on the same timeline if they are the same frame rate. 3.0 Also supports 35 Mbits XDCAM HD EX. Version 2.8 only supported 25 Mbits thin raster 1440x 1080. You can edit native in the XDCAM EX 35 or 25 Mbits format in 3.0, but will need to render your effects in an Avid format. Also, when it is time to output to tape you will need transcode to an Avid resolution.

Are you using the Sony EX1? Is 1080 30P an option or are you doing 24P with a 3:2 pulldown?

    Let me know.

Your older HP xw8000 is not qualified to run the latest builds of Avid Software. Upgrading your CPU to an xw8400 or higher will give you better render times. Blue dot effects rely on the CPU horsepower to process a render. Also, download the 2.8.1 patch for PC.
    Hope this helps…
