So if the limit is set by the format of the card, how does FCP and iMovie know to join them back together?

And is there any other software that can do that for viewing?

Proxy Mill demo is also seeing 13 files instead of just 6 clips so it’s going to make proxies for all 13 which won’t match up to the 6 that I can see in FCP.

On one card there are 13 files, but they show up as 6 clips in FCP and imovie.

I think the issue may be spanning. I’ve noticed that many of the files are 2.12GB is this a limit of AVCHD? And if so is there any 3rd party software that can join the spanned clips back together like FCP and iMovie are so that they can be viewed that way.

I’m going to check out Proxy Mill as well but $299 is a little steep for this project.

Yeah this was my plan (I was actually going to make a screener that had all the clips slammed toghether with the timecode generator) but I was hoping to have them be able to watch the clips and make notes before I had to bring anything into FCP.

Any other ideas?

The FCPReconnect app is exactly what I was looking for!

I exported a batch list of all my subclips, altered the reel name, brought the altered batch list into FCPReconnect, it found the other cam as the right clip to reconnect, I chose to copy by ref and keep relative path then made the ref files.

I imported the batch list back into FCP and reconnected!

A few little issues:

some of the files were created with the .MOV extension in the middle of the filename instead of at the end.
FCP still complains about the media start and end not matching on the clips.

Am I doing something wrong?

I might be getting the terms wrong – but its EX3 footage so it may be XDCAM EX not HD but either way..

I tried the export a list, alter it and import route but the subclips, even though they have the same timecode and reel names, will not reconnect to the cu masters – I renamed all subclips with a description but in their logging info they refer to the original ingested master clip as the file on the drive.

I don’t really think they should reconnect as each subclip is about 30s – 1m and each master is about 30 mins long.

Does XDCAM extract work with the SXS cards (or their copied folders) as well or just the XDCAM Disks?
