Yes shooting in 24p does require a steady hand (more so than 30i), and panning is some that requires a different “touch” as well. Figure adding several seconds to the “pan” when comparing to shooting 30i. As far as lighting is concerned I have not noticed a difference.

I couldn’t agree with Doug more. The application of an iRiver as a backup or second, third, fourth audio source is great. They are very affordable and produce recorded audio which is more than acceptable for wedding and event applications.

Doug in my panic I went to the iRiver site. Do you have any experience with the 990 model? I did not see how much it weighs on the site, it does not look much bigger than a MD recorder.

wow I had not heard they were stopping production on these models. pretty stupid if you ask me. seems to me that most videographers are using these now. I personally have three. I might buy a fourth while I can just to have a backup.

the last thing you want is bad press. anytime this is not good, but when you are just starting out it can have long lasting consequences. Perhaps you could have them over to “preview” the video together. You should be able to get a read on their reaction. Based on the reaction you could offer them some from of compensation (I suggest you have it already in mind prior to meeting).

Either that or offer a refund or additional free services (i.e. film to DVD xfer, etc) right up front. That is of course assuming that the product they are going to receive deviates significantly from the product they were shown via your demo.

The lenght you described doesn’t “bother me”. I have delievered many videos that were around 30 mintues or less. If you can effectively tell the story of their day in 30 minutes that is all that really matters, after all no one said wedding videos mus be a certain lenght (unless you committed to a lenght of course).

    sorry just saw your reply….

in order to use a lav mic you need to set it to ext mic. line in is if your feeding a line signal, not a mic signal.

okay I gotta ask, don’t you find that degree of hardware intrusive? I mean with that setup its gotta be hard to “blend in”. maybe its just me but that would seem very out of place at a wedding to most guest and result in a bunch of head turning.

you may also want to state where you are located. If your in NY and a videographer in CA needs help, I doubt he would want to ship tapes across the country to you. Just a thought.
