I appreciate your replies Jeff and thanks to Todd for emailing directly.

Ok so it all comes down to off spec graphics card or not now.. the issue is I can’t find any laptops with the cards on the supported list. I find a lot of 3 digit cards, for example 540M but all of the M cards on the supported list (I assume the M stands for mobile – not sure) are 4 digits, for example 5000. I can’t find a single laptop with one of these 4 digit supported cards in it (in the UK anyway)

does the card not get involved in a lot more than certain effects then? I always found my editing desktop hugely improved when I added a supported card and I hardly use any effects.
It seems there are not many mobile gfx cards on the supported list so it’s going to be tough if i need to stick to that.
I suppose I could use the hack to enable the gfx card as long as it’s got 1gb of memory.. if that applies to laptops in the same way it does desktops?

would love some clarification on this, i’m really keen to buy asap but i’m stuck on this gfx card thing

seeing as I got no reply I went out and bought a PCI sound card… I still only see 2 speakers in the audio output mapping.

Someone please help before I waste any more money 🙁

i found this thread really helpful, thanks to all involved. I had exactly the same problem putting all clips on the same timeline. I’m pretty confident if I join them I’ll get sync issues due to the length (over an hour) of the disc, but I’ll play around and if it does not work I’ll try to use separate timelines.

The only remaining issue I have is using 5.1 ac3 files for animated menu audio… is this possible? I’m having real problems getting the audio to play, fine when I use a wav, but when I clear cache and replace the wav with an ac3, it doesn’t play

this is now driving me mad.. I have 1 trial export left between the 2 pc’s that I have premiere installed on and don’t want to waste it like I just did.

I have put 3 images into a zip file HERE which show the mixer before exporting (showing good levels), the full export settings, and then I re-imported the ac3 into premiere to view the levels and you can see that they are 30dB lower.

I am really keen to get an answer to this issue if anybody can offer any help at all.

does nobody have any ideas? I’m literally checking this thread every hour desperate for a solution!

Here is a screen grab of my mixer if it helps (I think the issue might come down to this).

I have multiple similar tracks as I am unable to apply a crossfade between songs so I need to put them on different tracks with the same 5.1 attributes, fade one out and fade another in.

Thanks for your reply however after reading and watching I suspect most of this does not apply to cs5 as everything seems different when I try to do this. I can mix the audio fine in premiere, it’s the outputting that’s the issue. Unless I choose surcode the ac3 file I create when dragged back into premiere or authored to dvd using encore is only stereo.

does anyone have any idea about this? I’d love to get this sorted… It renders my menu structures pretty unusable how it currently is
