thanks guys I will take the battery out when I’m not using it, and keep an eye out for a DXA-4 or even better DXA-6 on the cheap…

Is there any other cheaper way I could split the shotgun and wireless mic into the left and right channels so that I can mix them together if I choose to do so in post? I was hoping to 2 to 1 XLR cable would do the job but as I said I was disappointed to find it mixes the tracks together before it gets to the camera…

thanks guys, I’m using it with a Sony HDR-FX1. I have done some research but can’t find a definite answer on whether this gives phantom power to the mic?

By the sounds of it I’ve probably wasted a lot of AA batteries in the past then! Yes I always use headphones but I’m worried that the battery might die half way through a wedding ceremony and I dont really want to keep an AA on me at all times (I know its only small) in case it dies.

Perhaps I’ll just change battery every 4 or 5 weddings to be on the safe side… Unless this camera gives phantom power ofcourse?

I have to decide whether the fact that I can’t get true stereo using one mic when going through the beachtek is a disadvantage. Is having stereo sound really a benefit when compared to capturing one channel and doubling it up in post/in camera?

Would the mic/line switch do any good when using a shotgun mic and filming a live bang close up which would usually cause clipping, or is it best just to adjust the volume level on the box?

Thanks guys. With what I’m exporting time isnt a crucial factor as I use a seperate pc to export to tape which is on all the time, I was just wondering if I was rendering twice for no reason. I have only just learned that i do not need to render before exporting a HD mpeg unless I want to preview it on the timeline. This has saved me a lot of time and I wondered if I could do the same with exporting.

If there were dropped frames or syncing issues it would be bad news with what I’m exporting as the exported tape will then become the master copy, therefore I think I wont take the risk, and instead just render before exporting to tape.

In terms of the HDV DV point that you raised Jon, I am using a HDV timeline and exporting to a mini DV tape, but I thought this export would still therefore be in HD? Is that correct? As this is the master copy I wanted it to remain in HD. If it is not I will try to save all of the HD mpegs but thats going to involve a lot of drives…

Please guys I can’t beg enough! I am desperate to find a solution to this. Once I get the red screen and premiere crashes totally the project will then not open without having to delete the preview files, meaning I have to keep saving multiple copies of the same project (I’m talking 20-30 copies…)

I will give any info required and am getting to the stage where I’ll even offer money to somebody to solve this possible business wrecking problem…?

I have tried this and seem to have the problem I thought might happen.. the composition that I have exported seems ‘flattened’.

Basically I want a layer showing the house the other layer showing the duplicate window frame. I then want to put a layer of say a person in between the other two layers, to create the image that the person is behind the window frame but still slightly visible. I then want to apply a wiggle to all of this to give a realistic camera shake.

Am I right in saying that if I pre-compose as you suggested I can not then ‘split’ the composition into the 2 layers to insert the person between them?

that sounds great, as long as the exported composition doesn’t “flatten” to lose things like photoshop opacity etc then I think this will be the sollution… thanks a lot.

the problem is i have already parented the 2 or 3 window layers to the house, however they wiggle in different ways to the house…

Could you explain how to precompose them together and output accordingly? That sounds helpful..
