April 22, 2019 at 1:42 pm in reply to: Converting to AVI Uncompressed on Mac

A client just asked me about simple text animations for stadium graphics, some of which require uncompressed AVI files. I’m glad I found this link and suggestion to use MPEG Streamclip. Can anyone advise if MPEG Streamclip is compatible with OSX High Sierra? The notes on their website suggest it hasn’t been updated since 2008!

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the Sexs2sesx app, but its a Windows app. I’m on a Mac and don’t want to deal with Windows emulation, so I’ll just have to deal with the copy/paste routine and try to get the two halves to align.

Did you find a way to do this?

I just received audio for a film saved as two .omf files (which will import in Adobe Audition). The client split the film into two halves and I need to merge the two halves together. I want to insure that audio tracks share the same mixer tracks, plus there will be music and sound design that spans where the two halves meet.

Anyone know of a way to merge either .omf files, or Audition’s .sesx project files?

Ken, Did you find a way to merge two Audition sessions?

I just received audio for a film in two OMF files. The client split the film into two halves and I need to merge the two halves together. I want to insure that audio tracks share the same mixer tracks, plus there will be music and sound design that spans where the two halves meet.

If you or anyone has a clue about how to merge Audition .sex projects, or merge OMF files, please share!

    thanks,
    David

  • Audio has become increasingly buggy with Premiere Pro in the past couple years. One solution that often works for me is to solo an audio track that isn’t playing, then un-solo that track. Don’t know what this would make a difference, but it seems to “wake up” that track.

Copy/pasting a timeline into a new timeline is another step that I have to take more often, but it DOES help quite a bit.

The short film I’m working on now became so unstable that I resorted to creating a new project, imported the flaky project into it (all sequences) and it is now (more or less) behaving.

While new features in releases is appealing, I’ll take stability over new features any day.

  • I agree that 2018 Premiere is fraught with issues. As with the 2017 version, I have experience problems related to custom workspaces (like windows popping up where you can’t grab the title bar to move them). My solution has been to view the upper level of folders in list view, change to another workspace, open the problem child folder and switch back to my custom workspace. After that sequence, the problematic folder seems to behave…for a while. Usually the next day the problem will reoccur. I have tried re-saving workspaces after things are working correctly, but that is always a temporary fix.

Today 2018 stopped launching. It hangs at “loading ImporterQuicktime.bundle”.

I tried using Option  + Shift after Premiere pro starts to launch, but it still hangs. I uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere Pro, but still no progress. I’m running Mac OS Sierra, and PP 2018 was running fine until this morning. Premiere Pro CC 2017 v11.1.2 still launches and will open old projects. Of course, my new projects are created in 2018 and I need to continue working on them.

If anyone has ideas on what else I can try, I’d appreciate it!

August 3, 2017 at 8:54 pm in reply to: Tentacle sync or plural eyes?

Did you ever get a reply, or come to a conclusion on this? I have been using Plural Eyes for 3+ years, and it works pretty well. I edit with Premiere Pro, which is also capable of syncing to audio, but albeit a slower process than Plural Eyes.

I’m a bit baffled about Tentacle Sync, as it requires the editor to have one of the boxes to launch the Tentacle Sync software. This means I couldn’t use Tentacle Sync devices when handing off files to clients that don’t have that system. Do they offer a stand-alone version of the software? Seems like it would help get their market share in a big way. I have read that Tentacle Sync software doesn’t support some video formats, but that may be something they can fix with updates.

I presume Tentacle Sync’s time code is more reliable than syncing if you have bad audio. Other than this situation, I’m not really sure what the advantage of Tentacle Sync devices are.

Did you find a way to color grade clips in Resolve and retain the transitions or extra frames needed for transitions in Premiere?

I wouldn’t mind having to apply transitions in Premiere after grading, but transitions need additional frame “handles”. How will these be created when exporting graded clips from Resolve?

I have an upcoming DVD project, and find Encore too buggy to work with. Regarding Premiere Elements, does this allow me to create custom menus? I need to use my own graphic background and be able to set up chapters and subchapters. I would like to have button “states” that highlight when the cursor is over them.

Any thoughts on how well Premiere Elements, or an alternate program for this task? I edit in Premiere Pro, so I presume the Elements version would be easy to figure out.
