I too have used Genuine Fractals and was impressed with how well it scales images, although as Bill said, it’s not really possible to get 300dpi out of 72dpi.
Before spending money on any third-party plugin, I’d test doing it with Photoshop’s native tools and printing at the size you want … I haven’t done the math to see how close a 1920×1080 HD video image would get to 24×36″ (assuming you meant inches, not feet), but it may get reasonably close.

No … each version of the Adobe Suite is independent … I don’t recall for sure whether you’d need the CS3 serial to install CS5, but you definitely don’t have to install both versions.
You can if you want to though … I currently have CS3 & CS4 on one machine, CS2, CS3 & CS4 on another and CS2 & CS3 on another … when I go to CS5, I’ll have CS3 and CS5 on them all (just been on CS4 too short a time to need it again for anything).

Lots of companies make these collapsible chroma-key screens with green on one side and blue on the other … they’re all about the same so $70 is a decent price considering many are several hundred and up.

I do chroma-key in After Effects with Keylight so not sure about the best plugins for FCP, but I’m sure there are plenty out there.

It’s fixed, but the “just from my favorite forums” link seems to be missing.

I’ll just add that, when media is made offline inside FCP (as opposed to deleting in Finder, which as Walter said, is generally a bad idea), FCP gives you the option of deleting the media from the drive or leaving it there.
Another reason one might leave media on the drive and disconnect it inside FCP is to replace media (still images, mograph versions, one take with a different take, etc.). However, if this is done with video or audio that’s already used in a timeline, it only works well if both the media being replaced and the replacement are the exact same length. I’m not necessarily suggesting using this method … it sometimes comes in handy for me, but these kinds of things can also be dangerous if you don’t fully understand what is happening and the limitations/requirements.

I import my XD-CamHD footage to our Mac with a PDW-U1 and, unless I’ve misunderstood the question, as Ben said, you should be able to just put the disc back in the PDW-U1, Transfer recognizes the clips (I/Os and all), select the clips you want and hit import again. It shouldn’t matter whether you imported the clips in their entirety.
I’ve only had to re-import footage that way a couple times so far, but it worked fine. If it’s not working for you, perhaps not only the footage got deleted from your RAID, but also the database files, etc. that I assume are where the I/O info is stored … not sure whether that info is written back to the disc or not.
As an aside, as a pretty cheap safeguard for these kinds of situations, we have Tri-Backup software running to automatically back up the most critical folders on our RAID to a smaller internal RAID we’ve set up inside the Mac … TB drives are pretty cheap now.

September 21, 2010 at 1:42 am in reply to: OT: Anyone Have a PVM-14L5 Manual they would like to part with?I’ve gotten hard-to-find manuals there many times so I know they deliver, but it’s been a few years since I needed one so I didn’t realize it’s not free any more until I looked for the one you need.
And, I wasn’t being facetious when I suggested Sony … some of the Sony Pro reps I’ve dealt with over the years have been able to help me with these kinds of things before so it might be worth a shot.

September 18, 2010 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Suddenly slow render times – How to troubleshoot?Maybe the project is in fact corrupt, but it may also be that there’s something different between the original project and the new one … most likely within the first few things that you did right before the problem arose (effect stacking order, project settings, etc.).
AE projects rarely become corrupted and, when one does, I’m not aware of a way to “un-corrupt” it, but importing a problem AE project into a new AE project can sometimes avoid total loss of work.
