Don,
Sorry I wasn’t more specific. At first I thought it was a FCP 7 problem, so I posted a more thorough explanation there. Should have done the same in this forum. I am out of the office today. But, I’m running OS X 10.6.8 on a MAC Pro. I think, that might have been one of the Software Updates. I probably was running 10.6.7 before the update (but I’m not sure).
I will post more details when I get back later tonight.
Thanks,
David

I had already trashed preferences, which I do regularly. I forgot about repairing permissions, though. Thanks.
That did not help.
After further investigation, there seems to be a problem with any QuickTime Movie with the Apple XDCAM EX codec.
I can open up any other QT movie in both QT and FCP 7.03. But the QT movies with the Apple XDAM EX codec only play audio in the QuickTime player, and show green in FCP.
This probably came from using the Software Update. It looks like I may have to restore my MAC OS and other applications using OS X Recovery via Time Machine.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment and advise. Fortunately, the client came through with a bunch of images, so I only had use this effect one time.
I ended up doing what Hans suggested. I did a FxFactory Glow Dissolve, 8 frames each side of the cut. I messed around with the Start and End settings and was happy with the outcome.
As usual, this forum is a great source of information.
Thanks,
David

Thanks David,
I’m looking for an effect like you see when watching edited news conferences where they add a flash of white, instead of a jump cut between cuts. To my eye, it doesn’t look like the entire frame flashes white. Or if it does, it does so at a different rate of dissolve towards the edges.
I have used the “G Glow Dissolve” from Nattress, with fairly good results. But I’m trying to get a little bit different look. I’ve tried messing with the Glow/Blur/Saturation levels. Maybe I need to experiment a little bit more.

Dave,
That’s a good suggestion. Maybe they didn’t record in HDV. But, as a test, she recorded some bars at my place, and we couldn’t get that tape to work either. And I thought it was set to HDV.
I’ve got a shoot tomorrow, so the person took the camera back with them and is going to mess around on their computer.

Good thoughts. But no crash. See my comments 2 posts above.
It took a while to type, so they appear before these last 2 came in.I have the PROJECT. But the SEQUENCE is missing within the PROJECT.
Thanks for all the input.

PROJECT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. It is NOT missing.
I have the project. But inside the project, the SEQUENCE I was working on in the Timeline, is NOT there.
So, when I came back this morning. The PROJECT was there. But when it opened, there was NO Canvas, and No Timeline. Last night, when I was working I only had that 1 SEQUENCE open. But somehow, it got deleted from the project.
I can’t figure out how I deleted it. If it was the only Sequence open at the time, and I had deleted it, I think it would disappear from the TimeLine and I would have noticed that.
I also have 2 different versions of the Project saved, 20 minutes apart. And they BOTH are missing the Sequence.
The only thing I can figure is I had the Sequence highlighted, switched to Motion, somehow hit delete and it did the delete action in FCP instead of Motion.
But when I closed up last night, I can’t imagine not seeing that the Sequence wasn’t in the timeline.
I have everything in my Project EXCEPT the SEQUENCE. Sequences from other videos and all the NESTS are in my Sequence Folder Bin, but not the Sequence I was working on. I have the Project saved under a different name 2 days ago, but I am losing 2 days of work.
Fortunately, I had done quite a bit of Motion Graphics work. Since that was done in Motion, I have all those completed sections.
I’ve moved on. Considering myself lucky it wasn’t a computer failure, HD failure, loss of all my original media, etc., etc.
Starting to re-edit the video and hoping to learn from my mistake of not having the Time Machine HD hooked up, and not having AutoSave active.
If anyone has any idea about how the SEQUENCE could disappear, I’d be interested in hearing it.
Thanks again.

Hindsight is 20/20.
I still wonder how the sequence was deleted?
I only had that one sequence I was working on, open in the timeline. If I didn’t physically hit the delete button ???
(trying to replay my last actions last night, but I don’t remember anything…. and NO, I wasn’t celebrating the Bruins Stanley Cup win)Is there another way ???

Michael,
Thanks for the ideas. 2 Things I didn’t do.
Searched spotlight – file wasn’t saved elsewhere.
Autosave was off.Still trying to figure out how the sequence is missing. I opened up the project this morning and there was no Canvas or Timeline Showing. How else, besides DELETING the Sequence, can the sequence be deleted?
Has anyone ever heard of this?
