Export QT “current settings” with “make movie self-contained” checked should result in “real” QT movie. If I’m not mistaken, a reference movie is just fine for running through MpegStreamclip though (plus it’s smaller and is much faster to create).
I’m not too familiar with this, but is there a .thm file that is associated with the original footage of the clip in question? If so, it may contain some meta data that you want. Preview should be able to open it, or change the extension to .jpeg and view.

Sounds like disappearing word it is behind another layer, open the “layers” tab and try moving the missing text to the top.

Yes, and a reference file is fine for sending to compressor and such but it isn’t actually a QT movie. The reference file just contains pointers to your original footage, which all by itself is relatively useless.

Well, I just saw the new LaCie 12TB 4big for $1500. It almost seems too good to be true. Should I be wary of the new 3TB drives for any reason?
I’ll pull the trigger on this in the next couple day’s, provided that nobody recommends a better solution for my needs and budget.

Hey Ronald, that was a fun and interesting read. Now we know the truth behind the COW. Thanks for posting!

Curious if you tried sharpening your footage with NEAT yet. If so, did you get the results your hoping for?
-
You could try NEAT Video, it is a great tool to have at your disposal. Alongside it’s excellent noise reduction capabilities is the “Smart Sharpening” feature (Basic: one sharpness slider, or Advanced: adjustment of sharpness/noise by either- Channel (Y, Cr, Cb) or Frequency (High, Mid, Low)).
There is a free demo, it only applies to 640×480 pixels, has a watermark and high-bitdepth rendering is disabled. Be sure to buy the Pro version if your working in HD.
Here’s a link to the product feature’s page on their website-

Be aware that LONG render times are involved!

I have been happily shooting with a pair of Sony NX5U’s for a few months now. Great camera, incredible battery life, dual SD card slots etc.. Close to your budget and I think it might be just what your looking for!

Sure, in hindsight that was a bad analogy. Using “noiseless” in relation to “song”, NEAT is a VIDEO tool. It was late…

[Nick Meyers] “you might want to take a look at some noise reduction.
i use the NEAT VIDEO plug-in for FCP.

I agree. If your footage needs it, NEAT is an awesome tool. The free demo was like the mythical Sirens luring in my credit card with their enchanting (noiseless) song.
