Open batch monitor and see if there is a previous job that is “hanging” (likely one that was canceled, but it’s stuck). If so, end it and reboot. At least that is what had happened to me and how I fixed it, one time in the past.

Compressor can make Blu-ray’s with chapter menu’s from Chapter Markers in FCP, but it is VERY limited in customization. Toast can as well but It’s been buggy for me.

Let me know If I am missing something here. When I downloaded (20 days
remaining) the CS5.5 Production Premium Trial (with the single
intention of trying out Encore) Encore was unavailable. I got the
message “Adobe Encore CS5.1 cannot run in trial mode. Please relaunch
the application and provide a valid serial number.”

I was really looking forward to some BD-RE test-burns…

I’ve had limited success with manually adding chapters in Toast 11. The problem for me is opening the “Edit” window. If it opens at all, it takes ~15 minutes. Otherwise I Force Quit the App.

I think Compressor is the best bet for Blu-ray Chapter Menu’s short of Encore. I’m just disappointed that it isn’t available in the trial. I would buy CS5.5 Production Premium at the half price discount in a heart beat, if I could just tryout Encore to see that I can in fact make custom chapter menu’s on Blu-ray that are worth the cost (also I want to take advantage of the discount, so when CS6 comes out I can just pay the upgrade price).

Seems like we are unable to choose an install location, contrary to what I’ve read was possible from people with dev versions around the web. I clicked “Buy” and it just starts… Figured. Download canceled immediately.

I followed DRW’s “Ready to Rumble” guide and have a blank “Lion” partition, ready. I guess it will have to be an upgrade to Snow Leopard. Here it goes…

I’m sure the processor will be more bang… but for how many bucks? I say snag a new drive now and save up for a nice big processor upgrade when some more money comes in.

In other words, apply the de-interlace filter. Then do everything else that you did to get it on YouTube just the same.

De-interlace HD video destined for the web (upper/odd field first). Leave video interlaced for TV.

Did you export to h.264 right out of FCP? I would export a “current settings” reference movie (command-E, uncheck “make self-contained”). Then bring it into Compressor. I can’t say off the top of my head what Compressor setting is right for your specific video, but I think it’s the way to go for highest quality.

The video looks great otherwise though! Some beautiful shots and scenery and the slow-mo at ~2:15 is pretty sick.

After following the instructions in Craig Seeman’s video “Audio Only Dissolve in Final Cut Pro X” and still getting unpredictable strange behavior, there’s gotta be something amiss.

I think it’s a bug or corrupt project or something. In the precision editor, I slide-edit one clip back and forth a couple times and the grayed out portion suddenly came back to normal, playback is like it should be… a cross dissolve/fade.

I started a new project, using the same footage and it is behaving now. Guess I just needed Bessie to tell X to shape up…

If anyone is able to reproduce this and explain it to me, that would be great.

Thanks for the reply Ray, +3db is fine. It’s weird, I apply a simple, default, “command-t” cross dissolve (or any other transition for that matter) but the audio doesn’t alway’s “accept” it. Rendering does not make any difference, and background rendering is off for now.

And here’s a new one, grayed out portions of audio are first and last ~10 frames of transition. When playing back, the audio has almost no fade at all. One comes in loud too early and the other stays on too long and ends abruptly. Very strange.

I’ve experienced the lag you described with the skimmer/playhead not moving to where I clicked right away. IME It seems to be that the playhead really did move, but it just doesn’t show up in the new position. If I click the space bar after this happens, it play’s from the position that the playhead was “supposed” to be.

Anther one I’ve had, which hasn’t been reliably reproducible is if I click on any menu, say “file”, then roll the cursor over the other menu’s like “view” “window” etc.. It may result in a long Beach Ball spin, likely followed by a crash. Seems to only be during render. At least my project re-opens right where I left it…
