Yeah, the autodetect is selected when it’s happening. I’ve tried selecting the AMA manually but it’s not letting me; the ok button is grayed out. I’ll try again this evening. QT seems to be correct and updated, too.

I’m using a new Macbook Pro i7, 16Gb RAM, 500GB SSD and having no problems with anything else running on it.
The clips will link with no problem in Premiere Pro but I can’t get them to, in MC. MC recognizes the drive and clips and will transcode them but not link them via AMA.

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled 8.1 and am having the same issue and getting the same error message as before, from the console:
—— AMA Link To File(s) ——
Forcing sample provider mode for video.
Appropriate QuickTime decompressor wasn’t found!

I’m using version 8.0 (Trial Version) as we’re moving from FCP 7 to ether Avid or PrPro CC. I’ve been learning both versions for the past couple of weeks and I’d like to go with MC.
Here’s the code from the Console:
Forcing sample provider mode for video.

[ Plugin Name = QuickTime Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 1.3.2.6455 ] could not process /Volumes/TS_1_RED/DAY 3/A CAM/A004/Blackmagic Production Camera 4K_004_2014-08-09_1729_C0000.mov
GetCodecName | Failed GetCodecInfo with err: -8961Most of the footage that we’ll be using is going to be from the BMPC 4K but, if I can’t get the AMA figured out we may have to go with PrP as I have no problems linking with it. And the clips do play back using QT. Maybe there’s something else not set right or I’m doing something wrong but, the only message it gives me is “Unable to link to file or volume. You may need to download and install AMA plug-in from Avid AMA website”.

Sorry…the problem is that it won’t link at all. A message box comes up and says I need to go to the Avid website and download the correct ANA plugin (which I thought was quicktime and already a part of Avid).

You use the transport buttons (forward/reverse). Push the iris button then use those.

We recently purchased the BMPC 4K for documentary work. One thing to keep in mind is that the camera comes with…well…the camera. So expect to spend several thousand more dollars for the rest of the stuff you really need to make it useful.
For the price though, you really won’t find a better camera.

I did a manual-on-tape for a national corporation using the AT4050 BTW, and it took months!
Our setup was the 4050 mounted on a boom arm with a pop screen (a must); narrator seated with a music stand in front of him. We did this in his house so, I set up two c-stands with boom arms and sound blankets, creating a sound booth of sorts. But getting silence was not always easy: cars driving by; planes overhead, and I had to unplug everything, including the refrigerator.
Take all the advice that’s been posted, and have fun with it!

I just picked up a 633 for documentary work and love it. It gives me 6 iso tracks, 2 master L/R tracks and 2 Aux tracks. It has timecode, can record to SD or CF or both at the same time.
I’ve been on many different shoots, all wanting something different. You’ll find on one shoot they’ll want to do “double system”; and on another they’ll want a transcription recorded. Another will want you to record M/S stereo. And still another will want two wirelesses and a boom mic – all iso as well as a mix track.
The mixer/recorder is the heart of your system (and business) and you should choose it wisely. I’ve owned several Sound Devices units and have loved all of them.
Best,
