    Greetings,

I’m having issues using AMA with clips from the BMPC 4K. I’m wondering what plugin (if any) to use for 4K ProRes HQ clips. Any guidance would be great.

    Thanks!

What are the problems? You don’t say. Anything ProRes comes in via the QuickTime AMA plug-in. Just don’t expect much in the way of performance. I find even 2K ProRes has a problem playing back. It’s an AMA link transcode workflow for this one.

Sorry…the problem is that it won’t link at all. A message box comes up and says I need to go to the Avid website and download the correct ANA plugin (which I thought was quicktime and already a part of Avid).

Can you play the QT file? Does it confirm the properties you expected?
Blackmagic don’t make any plugins they force you through Resolve.
Prores should work via the native QT AMA plugin that comes with MC.

If you have MCs console open you when you attempt the link you may see more info.

I downloaded the 4K samples that were posted a month or so ago and have had no problems linking via the QuickTime AMA plug-in. There have been a version or two that had trouble transcoding ProRes in general which might be an issue. What version of MC are you using?

I’m using version 8.0 (Trial Version) as we’re moving from FCP 7 to ether Avid or PrPro CC. I’ve been learning both versions for the past couple of weeks and I’d like to go with MC.

Here’s the code from the Console:

Forcing sample provider mode for video.
    Appropriate QuickTime decompressor wasn’t found!
    [ Plugin Name = QuickTime Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 1.3.2.6455 ] could not process /Volumes/TS_1_RED/DAY 3/A CAM/A004/Blackmagic Production Camera 4K_004_2014-08-09_1729_C0000.mov
GetCodecName | Failed GetCodecInfo with err: -8961

Most of the footage that we’ll be using is going to be from the BMPC 4K but, if I can’t get the AMA figured out we may have to go with PrP as I have no problems linking with it. And the clips do play back using QT. Maybe there’s something else not set right or I’m doing something wrong but, the only message it gives me is “Unable to link to file or volume. You may need to download and install AMA plug-in from Avid AMA website”.

I would uninstall and download the 8.1 trial which is the current version. v8 did not offer anything of substance over 7.0.4 other than getting the new licensing in place. 8.1 was an actual release with features and bug fixes. I did not even deal with v8 til 8.1 came out.

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled 8.1 and am having the same issue and getting the same error message as before, from the console:

    —— AMA Link To File(s) ——

Forcing sample provider mode for video.
    Appropriate QuickTime decompressor wasn’t found!
    [ Plugin Name = QuickTime Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 1.3.2.7205 ] could not process /Volumes/TS_1_RED/DAY 2/A CAM/A003/Blackmagic Production Camera 4K_004_2014-06-30_2014_C0000.mov
GetCodecName | Failed GetCodecInfo with err: -8961

Is there anything else I could be doing wrong?

That is very strange. Are you in line with the compatability/support?

I’m using a new Macbook Pro i7, 16Gb RAM, 500GB SSD and having no problems with anything else running on it.

The clips will link with no problem in Premiere Pro but I can’t get them to, in MC. MC recognizes the drive and clips and will transcode them but not link them via AMA.

What version of QuickTime have you got installed?
Any chance you can upload the shortest clip you have somewhere so I can test it here?
Or send via high tail or similar.
