I’m not sure that means the overall image quality is better, thou it could. I would really need to see a side-by-side comparison.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Ty. If you’re planning on using more than two mics, you need to use a mixer and someone to operate it.

Here’s one type of setup:

1. Each person gets their own lav mic.
2. Mics are run into the mixer. Pan the host mics to the left and the guest mics to the right.
3. Channel 1 on the camera gets the host mics (left out on the mixer), and channel 2 gets the guest mics (right out on the mixer).
4. Mixer operator rides the levels according to who is talking.

The reason you need someone operating the mixer, is that you can’t just leave all the channels turned up, as this will increase the noise floor making your recording sound echoey or worse. Any noise from the room you’re in will increase as well, overpowering the voices of your hosts and guests.

You also need to add a good pair of headphones to your list, like the Sony MDR-7506.

I use Trams (or Sonotrims), too. Love the sound but, I find them difficult to hide without a lot of clothing noise. If you don’t have to hide them, you’ll love them.

Or the Sanken COS 11. But, this may be more than you want to spend. Excellent mic, though!

I’m not sure I’d go with the AF-100, at least in terms of image quality. The compression rate is only 24Mbps compared to 44Mbps with the Canon eos series cameras. Of course, you can run uncompressed out to another HD recorder but, that’s more cost. The AF-100 is still a CMOS sensor as is the DSLR. Ergonomics are better in some respects but, I guess it really depends on what you’re shooting.

I don’t see much difference between the 7D and the 60D other than one records 17.9 MP and the other 18. They both have the same size sensor. The 5D on the other hand, has a bigger sensor and records 21MP. The compression on all is the same: 44Mbps.

Let me see if I get this: you’re plugging a lav mic directly into ch. 1 on the zoom, and the wireless receiver into ch. 2? The receiver and the zoom would be together, say, in the groom’s pocket. So, the groom is wearing the mic that’s directly plugged into the zoom while the other person is wearing the wireless?

Eric is right, there is no lav mic that will eliminate wind or noise. If you don’t have a choice of location, then you will probably have to hide the mic under the clothes or jacket. Sometimes a windscreen can help but, in my experience, they really don’t work that well.
