You may just want to go with the Zaxcom TRX900. It’s a wireless transmitter that will record internally to a CP card (up to 12 hours). Just add lav mic 🙂

If you want noise cancelling headphones I would go with the Remote Audio HN-7506. These headphones use the same parts as the Sony-7506 headphones. I have not used them but, they’re made to cut out most outside sound.

Hi Don,

Sound blankets are about your ONLY way to control the echo. Depending on the framing, I would put them on the floor, hang them on c-stands (just out of frame), and if possible, hang them from the ceiling.

Whether you use a shotgun mic or lav may depend on the framing and/or how the scene is shot; if anything, a shotgun mic will most likely pick up more echos than lavs.

What are your settings on your recorder? My guess is that a setting on the recorder isn’t matching a setting on the camera. I assume you have the frame rate the same (25p) but what about the frequency rate? Are you using the recorder as the master TC, jamming the camera from the recorder via the SB-T?

I love the EX-1. All things considered (cost vs. quality), it’s probably the best camera to come along in ten years!

How much of “This Is It” was shot with the EX’s? I thought they were using a RED.

Gelling the lights to match the outdoor light will work, but you need to know the color temp. of the light you’re gelling (you can get that from the camera).

You may not want to gel them to match exactly, though. They should give off at least some of their natural color temp; even our eyes see differences in degrees kalvin.

Keep in mind, the outdoor color temp. will change throughout the day as well.
