Perhaps I should have phrased it as “confusing workarounds with workflow” The point is the shortcomings require workarounds to use the program. This often reduces the efficiency.

The shortcomings have been brought up in this forum frequently enough – ususually once or twice a month. They are legion and keep many professional people from taking PPro seriously. You can go back and read those thereads. They tend to be the longest in the list.
I use this software for two reasons. Matrox Axio makes it the most capable HD NLE for the work I’m doing at present and I’m hoping that version 2 will have addressed the most significant shortcomings. If it doesn’t…well, quite simply put, the product manager should be replaced. The complaints have been coming thick and fast from 1.0. If they’re not mostly addressed by 2.0 he or she has no business shepherding the development of an NLE.

Obviously we can’t all suit ourselves. Hence the complaints.

I’m afraid your opinion, and perhaps your experience, of professional applications is rather limited.
It’s possible to make Premiere Pro work. I’m doing it. On the other hand it has severe shortcomings that are quite justifiably complained about. Maybe you confuse these shortcomings with workflow.

It seems to me that it’s very weird to get faster writes than reads. Too bad you’re not on a PC or I’d suggest Diskperf.

Best fonts are san serif. The size will vary with the font but for Arial in NTSC I find 24-26 points is good. Also be sure and use a drop or glow to make them always visible.
Tedious? When we haven’t tried anything better we don’t know. It’s way tedious compared to using Titlemotion which will import a structured text file of all your ST’s, apply a designated sub-title template, and save them all automatically to separate files.

A complaint I’ve heard about the Infotrend raids is the variation – “all over the map” is how one dealer who evaluated the system put it. The average is still good, but not if it dips to 200MB/S in the valleys. So please know how far it dipped as well as at 80% full when you can do the test.

The point is, for most professional users, ALL of the above are essential, including fixing all the things that don’t work. I seriously doubt whether there’s be MUCH disagreement about this among us.

I don’t see a better alternative for me right now than Axio with PPro. I just hope it will become a lot better very soon.

However this can be done in FCP and I believe in Edition & Vegas.”Not to be picky, Les, but last time I looked FCP could only manipulate audio tracks in 100th second increments, not by samples (48,000th or 96,000th second increments) and while 100th of a second may be adequate for FCP users we over on this side of the aisle require the greater accuracy of prcisely counting the number of angels dancing on the head of the pin, not taking an mere aproximation 😉

Tim,
You keep harping on the idea that everyone wants different thing from PPro. I think that’s a hugely relativistic and potentially unhelpful notion – especially if anyone at Adobe believes the same. I believe that the professional users pretty well want, more or less, the same features simply because that’s what they need to do their work without clumsy workarounds. You can insist that’s not true all you want but their voices speak differently in the various threads here and elsewhere.
I also suspect that if may of the features that “pro” users need (not want) are not in version 2 you’ll find that fraction is a much larger and noisier part of the whole than you think 🙂
