August 5, 2009 at 7:04 pm in reply to: Offline/Online Frame Accuracy Issue

We had inaccuracy issues with Deck control capture and layoff until we moved to Blackmagic Decklink. 2:3 pulldown removal perfect everytime. Laying off – frame accurate every time. On Kona 3, 1080p to 720p 23.98 worked with D5, but never worked with HDCAM SR. Decklink, works every time.

Aja make great hardware, but their drivers for RS422 in FCP are sorely lacking. Try changing the frame offset in the Control settings. They do not change anything.

I do not work for Blackmagic, this is just my personal experiences.

May 21, 2009 at 12:42 am in reply to: The BEST mpeg2 encoder up to date!!!???

The Cinema Craft Basic is great if you don’t need segment re encoding and costs something like $68. The Xtream engine is better and there is a MAC plugin version for $800, but you can always try out CCE basic and see if it works for you.

Keep in mind, if the bitrates are too low (4.5 or below), and the motion is quick, no MPEG2 encoder is going to help you, but it will be considerably better than the lesser encoders.

How much does Metus Ingest cost? Also, how stable is it? Does it work with Decklink Extreme in HD or only in SD?

    thanks for your help,

January 26, 2008 at 3:46 am in reply to: Apple Pro-Res HQ 1920X1080 as a RECORDING codec ?

Definitely go with Prores HQ, we used to use DVCPRO HD but there would be softness introduced from the scaling to 1280 x 1080. The Pro Res is a lot sharper and gradations definitely are smoother.

November 21, 2006 at 5:05 am in reply to: Cinema Display or Panasonic BT-LH1700

The 2600 has excellent color, very close to a BVMA20F1U monitor, the main difference is the blacks are not as deep as the CRT, but it’s very close. For the money, it’s a no brainer, the BVM HDSDI option is already much more expensive than the Panasonic 26″. Is the BVMA20F1U better, yes, but do you really want to spend $20k on a monitor? When you can get 90% of the way there for 1/5 the price?

happend to me, the fix is to trash FCP and prefs, and the receipts in the library/receipts/ , reinstall 5.1, then update to 5.1.2. All is well with P2 after doing this.

December 7, 2005 at 12:46 pm in reply to: FCP /iMac for Broadcast?

You could always use the DVCPRO 50 codec which is very nice or else the photo jpeg codec at 75% to preserve the quality of your graphics and work within your system, but at much lower data rates than uncompressed. Then just output to beta from the AJA io.
