Thanks David. I’ll see about changing the RAID to one that is better for video.

  • When you say Sequence master audio are you referring to the settings in “Sequence – Sequence Settings…”?

I’m exporting to ProRes Proxy. Any other suggestions for good proxy formats?

Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out.

Hey David, thanks for the response…I missed your revision originally.

I did some more experimenting and I ended up needing to create proxies for my 4k footage. Even when working off a RAID 5 that was connected through USB 3 my computer couldn’t handle the 4k footage.

    Specs:
    FreeNAS 9.3 Stable
    Xeon E3-1231V3 3.4GHz
    16GB DDR3
    4x4TB Disks + 1 Spare
Configuration equivalent to RAID 1+0 (mirror first, stripe second)
    ZFS format + LZ4 compression
Dual 1GB ethernet links, bound together with LACP
Users: 1-3, but problems occur with even 1 user

    Thanks David,
Fortunately for me, we just finished constructing a RAID 10 server and are troubleshooting it right now so we will be off of single drives soon. I also ran a quick test using the server and the playback was definitely better.

In the mean time I also discovered that while working with this project Premiere was using 600-750% of my CPU. I am experimenting now to see if proxy files will help reduce that load on my computer.

  • Pat,
I am opening these files from the same user account on my RAID as I was using for my external hard drive so user permission should not be an issue. However, I did check user permissions and made sure that every category of users on my computer had read and write access and the same thing still happened.
    Thanks
    David

Hey Randy, I have actually attended a few of those, including the last one at Logan Productions. I guess what I am nervous about when I am there is if I say that I am a recent graduate people will be turned off because they will just see me as begging for a job. Do you have any advice on how to approach people? Last time I just tried talking to everybody and not asking for work, but I need to strike at some point.
    Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply. For whatever reason I thought that the G5 held more than two drives, but looking at it last night proved otherwise. I think I may just go with your idea of buying a case for the internal drive and using it as an external drive. That won’t cost too much and I may actually end up saving money in energy costs in the long run.

Thanks for your reply. I know that I need to start on the bottom so I’m not expecting any really good positions soon, but thanks for the reminder.
