Sorry for all these responses…I was trying to multi task at work and failed terribly (I realized I misread your suggestion that Jellyfish NAS is a product of Lumaforge *facepalm*)

Do you have any suggestions for workflow to help with this?

The server we use is a home brewed Unix based NAS which we connect to in the Finder through 1gig ethernet(1 gig works surprisingly well with fcp x). Our IT guy set it up so that I could access certain folders on the server as an NFS for FCP X projects. We used the FAU article about configuring servers for FCP X to do this. https://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/1197-how-the-florida-atlantic-university-uses-final-cut-pro-x-on-shared-storage

Here are some specs on the server:
FreeNAS 9.3 Stable
Xeon E3-1231V3 3.4GHz
16GB DDR3
4x4TB Disks + 1 Spare
Configuration equivalent to RAID 1+0 (mirror first, stripe second)
ZFS format + LZ4 compression
Dual 1GB ethernet links, bound together with LACP

I’m having this exact same problem. Only solution I’ve found aresimilarly tedious workarounds that stop working at random.

However, this seems to be the best one so far:
Cut the clip that AE is displaying wrong then paste it somewhere else, change a keyframe by a fraction of a parameter (so that the cache won’t try to go back to what it was before) then slide the clip back into place.

My bad for thinking that I could have a productive debate in this “debates” forum with an fcp x fan boy. I’ve been lurking long enough to see your general aggression towards anyone who enjoys using other platforms.

Anyways the metaphor would make sense if you had experience working with cars.

After giving FCP X another good try I feel that this analogy is very true. Teslas are great for drivers who want a modern and easy experience exactly as the manufacturer provides, but you should get a Honda if you want to play around under the hood.

I consulted with the guy who built the server and he said this:
“RAID 0/5/6 is designed for high capacity and throughput. RAID 1+0 was chosen to favor multiple users accessing the server at one time.

With a four disk setup, RAID 1+0 or 0+1 should outperform RAID 5/6 since it has four disks providing data instead of two or three. (There’s no checksum/hash disk.) If the array was larger, say six or seven disks, RAID5/6 could be faster.

It doesn’t really matter though – one of the server’s disks (without any RAID) is faster than the network connection feeding your computer.”

Though after running off my RAID 5 directly connected to my computer more I think that this could be a problem with my iMac not being capable of the type of editing I want to accomplish. I seldom go more than 20 minutes without Premiere crashing on me when working with 4k(proxy files or not) between premiere and AE.
