Select–>Color Range, then select the white. Delete the white. Layer–>Matting–>Remove White Matte to clean up edges. That’s the down and dirty way.
For best results, bezier pen the logo out. Cut into the edges a little and you shouldn’t have white fringes around them.

I usually create the necessary duplicate audio tracks and with the audio in the source window hit “B” to fill the tracks. An easy way to copy the track AND place it in the source window at the same time is to:
1-place playhead over the clip you wanna copy
2-hit “T” to higjlight the clip in tp out
3-hit control + alt + C to copy to clipboard and paste into source window… one step 🙂

Point of clarification: While true for most educational software, this doesn’t hold for Adobe. They have no problem with students using their software to make money. Educational FAQ here.

You’ll find variatons of this question answered in many different forums wih a little searching. The simplest (IMO) way to capture is to take the output of your DVD player into your computer and simply capture from Premiere. There are several brands of interfaces that will convert the output to DV for you. If possible, buy/borrow one that will allow component input for the cleanest transfer.
You can also rip the files using a (free :-D) piece of software called Streamclip. Google it. I’ve not used it before, but my bro has and it usually gets high ratings from users.

If you don’t need the Cycore plugins AND you’re eligible to purchase the educational version, then buying now would make economic sense. Unless they’ve changed, Adobe education upgrades cost the same as their commercial upgrades unlike other software companies who make you pay the difference in cost between ed and commercial. It is possible to purchase and install the plugins separately. I’d take a hard look at your needs at the moment; educational discounts to qualified buyers often give a budding artist the hand up that he/she needs. And Adobe doesn’t restrict usage of their commercial products.

My mistake (again :P). Here is an Avid support article that describes a setup like you’re trying to achieve (Avid, Mojo, RS-422 controlled deck). It uses the Rosetta stone and even mentions that Avid sells it.

Apologies first, I thought the Mojo had a 422 port; it doesn’t. No matter, it was designed to accelerate realtime performance as well as capture and digital cut to camera. Not sure of your research, but I assure you that you can batch capture and cut through firewire. I don’t know if the JVC deck you mentioned is on Avid’s approved hardware list, but if it is, you should be able to connect it via firewire to either the Mojo or straight to your computer and perform both functions. Avid does warn that digital cut through firewire is not frame-accurate, but you can crash record. If I had your problem I would probably try disconnecting the Mojo and checking camera control via firewire straight to the computer. The help file concerning digital cut and capture is pretty thorough.

AFAIK, your computer alone will not support either of those two protocols. You will need external hardware to plug into your serial port to get that working. The Mojo will handle this for you. Aside from that you can Google a product called “Rosetta Stone”, although I don’t think it will be of any benefit to your Avid application. The real issue is that your computer OS alone doesn’t understand the protocols (other than firewire controlled DV decks/cameras).

1-To prevent a clip (or clips) from slipping sideways when you move them from one track to another, hold the shift + control keys when you drag them. This constrains the clip’s movement to vertical only.
2-Use the Fade Effect to fade your fonts and other alpha titles in and out. Unlike a regular dissolve, the fade effect remains on the clip if you have to move it.
