Great suggestion, Kim. Elegantly simple and takes advantage of a basic function of 3D surfaces and lights.
Back when 3D first came to AE, Brian’s Total Training package included several projects that took unusual advantage of this interesting feature including motivational shadows created with simple gobos and a simulated RGB video projection system.

Sorry, cannot duplicate your situation. I just successfully imported .wav, mp3 and m4a audio files. They import, play, and appear as expected in the audio sections and audio editor.
I imported by using the + sign in the media tab and navigating to the files. I also simply dragged the files into the media tab.
I have no idea why your system is not responding as it should but I can tell you reinstalling Apple software rarely solves anything because the software is hardly ever the problem.

Welcome to the family, Jeff. Post often, try not to be intimidated by the grumpy guys. but check the manuals and tutorials first, FCP is a huge application.

I’ve had reconnect issues but nothing like this, sorry, can’t help you directly.
I’d suggest using the thrice-cursed Media Manager. Let it gather all of the video elements from their original locations and copy them to a new location.

There aren’t any best practices because the PC guys don’t really know what they need or want form your Macintosh and that makes them nervous. As far they’re concerned, you’re the only problem in the whole project.
Quicktime is probably a useless wrapper for them. I suggest you hand off an AVI using the best settings you understand to make it as good as possible.

32 characters? Sheesh, I’ve never used more than about 20 in a filename. Mostly because the practice makes the name easier to read quickly in a directory. I rely on the metadata and comment fields for shot description.

Sorry, that’s a real puzzler. I’d have to conclude it’s an issue with the storage system which, sad to say, I’ve never heard of. Does the mfr have a user forum or online tech support?
I’d start debugging by capturing a specific clip, carefully noting its name and location, and then seeing if you can get it to go offline.

I always answer similar inquiries with a question: Why are you using Motion for a slide show?
If you need the advanced function of the application, you work within the limitations of the application and within the limits of your comprehension of the application.Start with 10 or 20 still images properly formatted for Motion’s output. Learn how to perform your moves and effects and to perfect your output rendering and display; end results you do not describe in your post. Your artifacts may be someone else’s cool style. Motion blur, proper field settings, aspect ratios, frame rate and color space must all be considered unless you’re going straight to DVD in which case everything is pretty much pre-determined.
I would approach a project that requires 150 still images by dividing the project up into manageable reels of, say, 30-50 images that can quickly be linked together seamlessly with dissolves or cuts in FCP. that’s much easier to design and edit than a single massive project.

My first suggestion is to investigate digital signage.
My second statement is to castigate you for not knowing how you were going to pull this off BEFORE you designed it.
The problem you must overcome is how to play the two HD streams in perfect sync in an unmanned playback situation so they stay in perfect sync or are self-correcting. I know of no computer playback applications other than digital signage proprietary systems that will do this for you. Although I have heard of multiple QT Players being launched on separate monitors, I’m not sure how you’re going to do HD or keep them in sync.I hope others will offer up a more optimistic and workable solution for you. Give us a couple of days for some other folks to check in.
