Make sure you absolutely double check with AJA on Monday (if you can wait that long) I know the K2 and K3 wil do this but You might also be pushing to much through the raids. If you bump it down tto DVCPRO HD then maybe do the natress render inthe same pass. Might be the bes/quickest solution in a pinch.

    Fearless.

Bad news. With the K2 and LH you can not coss convert the framerates on the fly on output unless you are down converting. I believe that only the K3 will perform the type of Cross coversion you are attempting here.

I do not think that the 1200A or the 1400 can solve the problem for you either as niether of these decks records at 1080 23.98PSF.

BTW: this is DVCPRO HD footage not Uncompressed, correct?

  • You are looking at two completely different color spaces and the monitor needs to be set up propoerly (using the color bars with the blue gun of the monitor turned on) to set the monitor up for each color space.

HD and SD are different color spaces. so they should look different. each needs it’s own separate color correction.

The downconversion does not compesate for the difference in color space.

    Echoing what shane has said.

THe best thing you can do is take advantage of the low data rates and ease of editing DV. You might want to reconform your film at a Higher resolution before a Color Correction or effects pass.

This be done via hardware or via software from right within FCP. You can drop your final sequence into an SD timeline and color correct and render it to that codec as well.

You could media manage the sequence to a higher quality setting if you do not wat to recatpture. DV never gets better but you can do alot to make sure it does not get worse.

February 26, 2007 at 5:41 pm in reply to: drop and non drop frames

Drop Frame time code= Time code that matches the clock (a one hour drop frame sequence is actually one hour)

Non Drop Frame Time code=(it does not drop frames so one hour of non drop time code is actually longer than a clock hour)

When delivering a tape for broadcast it should be in DROP FRAME TC to represent exactly how long it will play (second will be cut off if you use NON DROP)

Camera’s can record either DROP or NON DROP and 24P material is generally all NON DROP. it does not matter how it is captured and has nothing to do with the FRAME RATE.

What matters more is your sequence timeline. You can relog those clips to specify DROP (; Semi colon) or NON DROP ( : colon) between the second and frame numbers IE 10:00:00;00 id DROP. 10:00:00:00 is NON DROP.

The best way to accomplish this is by using media manager.
