January 25, 2006 at 1:08 am in reply to: FCP Quits Cannot Figure it out Need Help . . . Please

    Shane,

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately, even removing all the video plugins does not seem to fix the problem. In fact, when I put them back, it seems to get past the video plugins and falters at the audio plugins. Not sure if that’s right but the last thing I see begore it quits is audio something or other. Strange thing is is that it gets to the very end of the initialization and just when you’d expect it to give you the empty project, it quits. I wonder what the very last step of the initialization is?

Again. I reloaded the software back to 5.0 off the discs. . . . . ahhh I have an idea. This fcp install was originally upgraded identically in two suites. Obviously this gave us problems which we resolved by purchasing another copy of FCP. So what I did was toss the registration plist (or some such) and put in the new registration number. I wonder if it could be shutting itself down because it thinks the serial number is not valid. Although mybe not since its been working fine on this number for months.

    Rats.

January 10, 2006 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Video freezes every minute or so during capture.

    Nick,

I know I mentioned this before BUT, would you please confirm that “allow host caching” is turned off (unclicked) in the performance tab in XRAID Admin/Settings. The problem you describe is exactly what happens to me when I load with “allow host caching” on. Remember, (for me at least) I HAVE to reset this EVERY time I go to load. (If anybody knows how to fix this let me know) Even with a bad drive, you STILL shouldn’t have the freezes you describe.

    Please let me know.

    Nick,

I’m surprised the experts missed this one. You’re using an XRaid right? Go into the performance tab in Raid Admin and UNCHECK the middle option which I believe is “allow host cache flushing” or something like that (I’m not in front of my computer at teh moment) That WILL fix your problem BUT you’ll need to reset this each time you reboot. Not sure why it won’t hold the settings but it doesn’t. Please email us back to let us know if that worked.

    Hey Gary,

Can I use the HVX200 to record DVC PRO HD via firewire out to a DVC PRO HD deck? The 8 gig cards aren’t long enough to capture what were looking for. It would be great if we could bring a deck and tape stock along. Thanks

December 2, 2005 at 2:26 am in reply to: Downconverting with 1200A deck

I am using a 1200A to downconvert 720P footage. The downconvert works fine as I tested it loading it into FCP and the footage is fine DV25 just what it should be. However, when I take the same output (firewire) and plug it into my DSR-1500, the iLink light does not lock up, it just blinks.

I tested the DSR-1500 by loading firewire directly from a DV Camera (VX 2000) and the DSR-1500 locks up to it just fine.

So, best I can tell there is something the DSR-1500 just does not like about the firewire output of the AJ-1200A. However, I tested both machines and the downconverted output of the 1200A loads just fine into FCP (DV NTSC Easy Setup) and the DSR-1500 locks on immediately to the output of the VX2000.

Jeff, I know Sony gear is not your thing, but I suspect you might know the answer

November 3, 2005 at 1:40 am in reply to: Walter, 1200A Question?

Sorry Shane I was too brief.

I want to downconvert an existing 720P tape to SDdef DVCAM via Firewire, no sweat right. But I was wondering if at the same time the HD SDI outs are active so I can SIMULTANEOUSLY make a Hi Def dub to another deck.

Does that make more sense? Sorry, long day.

June 14, 2005 at 2:37 am in reply to: Compression Master 3.1 support for Sorenson3 Pro?

    Charles

Got it. You were exactly right. I needed to upgrade to 3.3. Then it worked.

Would you mind answering another question? I’ve made a series of new settings in CM and when I check them by double clicking on them in the left hand pane the settings are correct. However after I drag tehm to the batch window and compress the settings have changed frame sizes and or frame rates and particularly audio settings. Very frustrating. There must be something overwriting my settings. It doesn’t happn to all of them but out of the 11 settings five are badly messed up. And it happens repeatedly. Ever see anything like this?

June 13, 2005 at 3:39 pm in reply to: Compression Master 3.1 support for Sorenson3 Pro?

    Hi Charles,

Can you clarify something for me? On my G5 I have Sorenson Compression Suite installed so I have the SV3 Pro codec installed. However, when using the DEMo version of CM 3.1 I only see that it is using the “standard” version of Sorenson to compress. Do you know how I can get CM to recognize my Pro license?

    Thanks for your help.

    Ben,

I suspect you’re the only person in the world who knows the answer to this problem . . .

As noted elsewhere, Tiger10.4.1/Squeeze 4.1/QT 7.01 results in very contrasty, unacceptable results in Mpeg 1 and H.264 encodes.

    1. Is there a fix?

    2. Do you suppose the fix is far off?

I’d ask Sorenson but thus far they’ve been incredibly lame. Unknowledgable tech support.

    Thanks for any info.

    Dylan,

There is a terrific and inexpensive plugin from Digital Heaven that masks dead pixels by copying the pixels from around it. Very simple and effective. And then, if you have Boris FX, you can use the motion tracker to track the blemishes. Hope that helps.
