Hi Simon, I have both the Event Viewer and Timeline viewer working. The update for me was about 10 seconds, close to the same. I’m on 10.9.2 also. I would try a reinstall or the new keyboard shortcut to trash the prefs. I think it’s command, Option on launching of FCP X

June 8, 2014 at 10:59 pm in reply to: When updating FCP 10.0.9 to FCP 10.1.1 the project file is missingI had the same problem. Went back to the computer that had the 10.0.9 projects and events, Updated FCP X to 10.1 and updated on that computer and it worked. Hard drives had same names on both computers. Weird!!!

June 8, 2014 at 10:52 pm in reply to: Video only editing of multi cam clips… is it possible?[Ronny Courtens] “- Detach (or expand) the audio from the first clip on the timeline and stretch it to the end of the edit. Then group-select the other clips and mute their audio in the Audio tab.”
I like this choice then you always have the original audio to check sync with.

[Julian Bowman] “I also get weird playback on regular pro res clips for about 5 seconds before it ‘settles in’ to the playback.”
I see this all the time!

[Scot Walker] ” was thinking I’d need a consumer Samsung LCD TV off of the HDMI using the FCP X AV/Out option to see what the color looks like for the end user. Is that even necessary, or is what I see on the Dell 4K good enough?
“You wil not get an accurate viewing form the HDMI output. It outputs a computer feed to a monitor. On my Samsung when I hook it up to the HDMI output it turns off a lot of the setting on the monitor because it sees it as a computer feed which is a different dynamic range and color values.
It works but don’t use it to judge color or contrast of the image.

Mitch, I have almost the same set up and I am surprised like you that the new Mac Pro’s don’t operate better with FCP X. I hope the next FCP X update performs better!
[Mitch Ives] “I have a brand new Mac Pro that still beach balls once in awhile, and on average unexpectedly quits once during a long day. This is a new 8-core, Dual D700’s, 64GB or ram and a 1TB SSD and it still does that, even with nothing else opened. It’s running a 12TB Promise Pegasus2 disk array, so it’s not like everything isn’t maxed out for performance.
New machine, virgin install of everything, all new render files. I don’t know how much more perfect I could make the environment? I think Apple has some more work to do (he said in his most compassionate voice)…
